It is important to be familiar with your barbeque equipment because not knowing what you are doing can result in consequences. Once you have familiarized yourself with the appropriate information, barbequing is an extremely fun thing to do, and it creates quality time with family and friends.

Finding appropriate barbeque equipment becomes more and more difficult as time goes on. The reason? As time goes on, the selection of barbeque accessories increases. It becomes difficult to find the right equipment if you're not exactly sure what you're looking for, and using the wrong equipment is a great start for an unsuccessful barbeque experience.

The following tools, the barbeque fork, the barbeque tongs, grilling spatula, brushes, and mittens are very basic barbequing accessories. They are comfortable to use and will more than pay for themselves every time you grille.

Many people think the barbeque fork is used primarily turn meat and stab/transport it. Instead, you use the fork to test if your food is done, or to loosen up the food that gets stuck to the grille.

As stated above, the fork is not actually intended for flipping. Instead, use barbeque tongs. Barbeque tongs are great for flipping various meats, from burgers to steaks to sausages, to ensure an even grille. Beyond flipping food, you can use it to move things like coal and grates. It is a very basic barbequing item, and hard to be successful without a pair.

For your more delicate foods, try using a grilling spatula instead of the barbeque tongs. The reason being because delicate foods will likely break apart if tongs are being used. Many find that spatulas with a bent handle and wide blade make it easiest, however, try holding a few different spatulas and get the one most comfortable to you..

When barbequing, it is likely you will be brushing different sauces on different foods. To brush these sauces on, you will need brushes. It is highly recommended to have multiple brushes since there are so many different bastes and flavors.

It is wise to use oven mittens when handling food from the grille, whether it be turning or removing a food on the grille. You can also use the mittens to pick up food wrapped in foil, handle hot accessories, and transport food.

Of course the equipments used for barbequing far exceed this list, but this is a pretty basic list to start off with. Whether you're handling forks, spatulas, tongs, or brushes, wear mittens when necessary, and try to keep your accessories with long handles. Spend time around the grille while others are hosting to learn about it and to be comfortable around it so that when you host your own barbeque it is fun, safe, and delicious for all.
