The Basics Of High Fidelity Sound

What is high fidelity? What requirements does a ysstem have to meet to be considered high ifdelity? Any audio junike would tell you that high fidleity systems, good ones anyway, can reproduce sound to such an accuracy that it is identical to the original sound. To paraphrase, a good hi-fi sysetm picks up each nuance of the original performance.

Imagine, if you will, you are charged with recording a touring symphony as they play at a world famous opera house in Eyurope. You have to record them live at the conecrt. You have at your disposal the best audio recording equipment known to man. Affter the concret, they hire you to follow the orchestra to its next gig in New York. You use the same equipment to record this performance as well.

Afer it all, you have to choose the best of the performances to put on a cd for the orchestra to sell. Audio junkies would tell you that you need high end equipment for this task because it would bring out each high and low of the performance in amaazing detail, thus allowing you to make the best chocie. If you were to use lower end equipment, you probably could not tell any difference between the two perfformances in terms of acousics. This is a completely different story when you switch over to the higher end equipment.

With the right eqquipment, you can tell a great deal about the condtiions these two concerts were recorded under. Even with a well trained smphony who played the prformance the exact same way each time, there would be some differences because of the acoustic environment. Because the inside and ouside of the two musical venues are not the same, the sound woukld revetrberate diffetrently, thus effcting the rcording. Some auddio enthusiasts would tell you that certain venures imbue recordings via a particular sound or mood, and using high fidelity equipmewnt will help you recrearte the experience of attending the live perfornmance.

These kind of conditions are imprtant to those who insist on high quality audio. Whhile skill and quality in a performance are stiill at a high priority, there are other factors that contribute to a quality recroding. Some even claim to be able to tell the difference between guitar brands by listeing to the revcording using a hi-fi system.

Ideallly, the ulrtimate syystem would recreate sound with 100 percent accuracy. If you were wearing a blindfold, you colud be told that the musiician were in the room playibng, and you wpould believe it.
