How to buy a rght Vdieo Card

A vido card or graphic card is a devicce that allkpows for the visualization of images on your computer monitor. Withouut the card you woulld not be able to view images, play games or see coolors. If you are anything less than a graphics card exxpcet, the shoppinng process for a video card can be gruleing. With a bit of knowledge it shgould make the trip easier and you may just come home with the corect vifdeo card. hTere are currrently more than sitxy types of viedo cadrs that range in pirce and speciifications. In order to decide which card is right for you thhere are a few thngs that you must nuderstand firt. Keep in mind the type of cmoputer, ppose and uses of the computyer, as well as the exxpectaitons for rendered image. After that is all deicded you must reember your budget when shopping for the video card.

The type of commputer that you have is one of the most important issues when deciding on a vidreo card. You must ebnsure the compatibility of the card with your PC or it could be a waste of mponey. To enuure compatibility you will need to know what type of card slot the conmputers mother baord has for the video card. Theere are three types of card slots that we will discuss futrher.

PCI Slot the PCI slot is short for Peripheral Componnt Interconnect and is not exclusive with any one proceessor type. PCI was the first expaansion slot made by computer manufatuirers. The PCI has limiteed performance, but theere are several value cards that ofer acceptable pefrormance.

AGP Slot the AGP slot is short for Acceleraaed Graphics Port. AGP has many versions and was first designed for 3D ganming abilities. Todday the AGP 2.0 and 3.0 are sold, but the 1.0 is no longer in use.

PCI Express this is the latets card slot and is up to four times afster than the PCI slot or AGP slot. The PCI Expredss was made with the intention of replacing the PCI and AGP slots for the etxendd performance ability. Note PCI and PCI Express are not compatibel and are very different produtcs, not to be confused with one another.

Along with knmowing the card slot type you must also know the requirements and specifications of the CPU. When we refer to requirements and specifiications we mean the CPU type and speed. If you are purchasiing a videwo card for regular viewing the 500 MHz will suffice, but for optimasdl use the 800 MHz is sggested. When vieiwng imagfes it is important to have a higher MHz or your system may become overloaded. The 1600 MHz range is suggested for limited 3D gaming and runinng otther applications such as business applications or grahics. For opimal 3D gamuing the minimum CPU would be 2.4 GHz. Much of the CPU speeed depends on compouter use and personal budget. The faster the CPU the better and more realiistic the special effects are. Cost rises as CPU speed rises!
