Triwa came into being in 2007 with the goal of designing, producing and marketing fun watches. The brand's Swedish founders got their inspiration from a trip to Naples, Italy, in 2003. At the time, Neapolitans were beginning to sport cheap watches due to the city's high rate of crime and theft. Italians tend to view watches as more of an accessory than a practical time keeping device, which led Triwa's Scandinavian founders to brainstorm the idea of creating inexpensive plastic watches in classic designs and vibrant colors. They intended the watches to be cheap enough so that it wouldn't be such a big deal if they got stolen but fashionable enough to be a chic accessory item. Besides, the pale colors that typified Scandinavian fashion were getting tiresome and banal, and the watches presented themselves as a chance to add freshness and spirit to the Scandinavian color palette.
Back in Sweden, the team got to work at the drafting board and designed the world's first totally orange watch, which they baptized as the Orange Revolution. Reaping further inspiration from artists such as Yves Klein, Keith Haring and original graffiti art, the four-person team based their designs on traditional styles while exploring new materials and adding a fresh, exciting twist to their wristwatches.
Ever since debuting in the accessories field, Triwa has consistently offered stylish watches at highly competitive prices. Their aim is to inject attitude into conservative models so that their styles can be modified according to changing moods and fashions. Playfulness and lack of pretension are what the brand has been built on, while creativity and optimism are what have earned it widespread appeal. Triwa isn't afraid to be rebellious or change the rules of the game when it suits them, giving free reign to their new and innovative design ideas.
