Pythagorean Numerology
I once had a devotee who used to mention, "math isn't everything, however everything is math". He was a musician, who understood the manifestation of numbers on a page into the harmonious composition of the universe. Perhaps he belonged to the church of Pythagoreanism, founded by the Greek thinker and mathematician Pythagoras, inventor of the Pythagorean theorem, a familiar term to every student of basic geometry.
Pythagoras understood the universal language of numbers, both on the fabric and non secular planes. He spent a great deal of his youth learning the wisdom of eastern cultures. Though he is credited because the Father of Numerology in the West, there are older numerological systems that predate him. In fact, it's probable that he learned these systems, changed them, and began teaching his version in Greece to his followers. The oldest system comes from the Chaldeans of Babylon.
The Chaldeans developed and practiced several sciences that linked the vibrations of the universe to the happenings on Earth. To them, the universe was a singular symphony, where each note mattered and every sound played off the others, some during a harmonious method, others off-key. All of this might be understood through numbers, because the Chaldeans assigned a completely different numerological worth to each sound or vibration. Thanks to the cultural perspective of the time, all information was sacred and mystical as a result of most of it came by observing the heavens.
That esotericism distinguishes Chaldean numerology from Pythagorean numerology. For the Chaldeans, the number nine was sacred, and was disregarded of the computational system. Western numerology acknowledges the religious side of 9, calling it the quantity of the humanitarian or crusader. The nine energy is aligned with the traits of Jesus Christ. It is a robust range, the amount of perfection and completion. Maybe, the Chaldeans knew that man might never produce one thing that vibrated on such an energy level, so it absolutely was useless to use for his or her own purposes.
Letter values are totally different furthermore, as each letter's sound aligns with a unique vibration variety for the Chaldeans, while the numbers are merely linear in Western numerology.
A significant difference between the two is the utilization of double-digit numbers. Western numerology reduces all figures right down to a single digit, simplifying the system. After all, there are Master numbers and Karmic numbers in the Pythagorean system, but those are comparatively few. The employment of double-digits makes Chaldean numerology tougher to perceive for many students, as there are more meanings and interpretations to be examined. But, the essential numbers of one through 8 are usually similar in their interpretation in both numerological systems.
While there may be discrepancies between the two systems, the character of the science is the same. Numerology is founded on the assumption that numbers embody each physical and spiritual properties, that can be used to benefit the student. Understanding how those properties interact teaches the student how to interact and interact in the melody of the universe, rather than just observe and listen.
