As previously mentioned, sometimes a relaxed tweaking of the variables of an equation will allow the solution to present itself, as opposed to a determined subjugation of the problem. This once-removed mindset allows one a distanced perspective and insight. At times, this is not enough, because the variables have valid values they must comply with. These act as parameters to the both sides of the equation. In this scenario, the solution may not be the answer needed. When the acquired answer is not satisfactory, no amount of variation in the variables will rebalance the right side of the equal sign. The answer may change, but the balance never shifts in equality. A mundane example would be a problem faced by a man whose salary supplies him with just enough financially, thus causing him much stress. He begins to tweak his variables. He can decrease his spending, which only gives the illusion of an increased income. He can work overtime, increasing his income at the cost of trading his invaluable and limited time for money. The bottom line remains: his income is not enough. He can work with this equation endlessly, but will continue to find himself in equilibrium with not-enough. The solution requires him to sidestep his self-imposed confinement by finding a new equation altogether. He should attempt to find higher paying work or establish a passive income. The absurdity of how often this common-sensical resolution to a problem is never realized is disappointing and disturbing. Self-victimization serves a sickening purpose, and when co-morbidly blinded with tunnel vision, the metaphorical mathematician cannot walk away from, nor erase, the prison of his chalkboard.
