2. Have a workout plan that includes cycles of strength and power along with conditioning and a realistic approach that fits your life and schedule= this means that if wrestling is all you do it will be easier to have a pure strength cycle and power cycle and regeneration cycle and in season cycle but if you are competing in other sports or are a youth athlete these will need to be modified to fit your life and homework schedule along with other sport seasons.
3. Injury prevention exercises and foam rolling= Wrestling is a tough sport and making it through without injury is a challenge but you can increase your chances with a proper program to help avoid injury. You should be foam rolling and using the stick for recovering and to get the muscles ready to stretch. Your stretching program should be thorough not only for the benefit it gives you in wrestling but also for injury prevention. Make sure you are also working on mobility exercises to help reduce risk of injury to joints. Activation exercises will also make sure all your muscles are working and no compensation injuries will occur.
4. Train like you are a wrestler not a bodybuilder or power lifter= Your workout should prepare you for the 6 or 7 minutes you will need to perform at a high level. Your conditioning program should be geared towards this extreme anaerobic demand.
5. Train all your muscles= Wrestling even more than other sports demands that all your muscles be in peak performance shape to win. You need to train all the major muscle groups and the small muscles already mentioned in activation but also the neck and hands and forearms.
6. Eat Healthy= Don't over think this one, there is plenty of good literature out there now and you can get as specific as you need but I am talking about avoiding the obvious and eating the obvious. Don't go to fast food restaurants; don't eat candy and chips, the obvious goes on. Do eat fruits and vegetables and lean meat and protein shakes, Do eat healthy snacks and have a day every couple of weeks where you have a slice of pizza but keep on track.
7. Wrestle! = You need to practice and perform your art, you need to find competition that is better than you are too! You cannot get better beating up on people all the time, if you want to get better you have to push yourself and go to camps and seek out the best coaches in the country and the best wrestlers in the country to make yourself better.
