When a crazy day of jetting out and in of various locales in the tri-county area my partner in crime, whom I lassoed, bribed and cajoled (with my charming company and food and drinks) to return with me on my excursion hunting for my Saturday holy grail-esque desire; we have a tendency to finally landed at Talavera in Coral Gables mid-afternoon.
We had already eaten lunch some forty two miles away from where we tend to were but we were in the zone (or jones-ing) for a cocktail. And it simply thus happened that we found ourselves on the corner of Ponce de Leon and Giralda in Coral Gables, home to the highly praised Talavera, Cocina Mexicana.
Just a drink, was all we needed. Yea positive, do you ever really just get "a drink"? We have a tendency to still had one more stop, we required to go from here to there; thus one drink, that's it. I was going to urge a beer however then I browse the menu. Original Margarita, with one hundred% Agave Tequila. Regarding a month ago I had a margarita at a restaurant in Deerfield Beach on the water; it was one hundred% bitter combine, I sent the drink back, the bartender argued with me reeling that I might question his 'mixologist' abilities. So still having that 'sour' style in my mouth from a month ago I assumed it was time to try the nectar of the celebrated agave plant once again and what higher place than a Mexican Cocina to point out up some showboat, waterfront restaurant. And I used to be right! I love it when I'm right about foods and drinks, it's such a great feeling to share good food and beverage, it very is what makes the globe go 'round. Thus if this Talavera can build one authentic margarita I will solely imagine what the food is like but OH GOD, we tend to just had lunch! I had to, even if it had been just a very little teaser. And so I did....
We have a tendency to ordered chips and salsa and guacamole. Dos salsas to be precise, a red and a green, red is mild, inexperienced is hot. Super HOT! I wasn't taking note of the server when he brought over the condiments (as a result of I used to be carrying on concerning the great margarita and licking the salt off my glass) I immediately dove right into the inexperienced salsa, as a result of it looked thus 'colorful'. uh, huh.....listen when somebody is talking!!! Did we tend to not learn that at the age of two?? My partner in crime who was dragging at this point of our Saturday journey, did hear the server and heard him say "green salsa is hot" reveled in what was concerning to be my reaction to consuming what is the equivalent of explosive gas. A carafe of water and two additional one hundred% Agave Tequila Margarita's mounted that small episode.
The chips served are the new blue corn tortilla kind terribly crispy and simply enough salt that you just keeps going back for just one more. I am a salt kinda girl. So even the slightest trace of salt on my chips inviting me to lick it off, is a winner in my book! The guacamole is created to order and served during a molcajete (mortar) Talavera pottery bowl. I really like avocados, contemporary ripe avocados, not the green mash in a very plastic container or worse a plastic bag! in the refrigerated section of your local grocery store. Talavera = Guacamole. Contemporary, creamy taste, chunky, hand made. OK therefore currently I am totally fixed in the complete wonderful and welcoming experience at Talavera. However this is often what cinched it, we showed up at an off time, probably the amendment of shift from lunch to dinner. The manager of Talavera came around and took our order. Never once passed judgement or harrased us for not ordering "food". Never once hassled us to order additional cocktails. We were welcomed and appreciated for simply being there. This idea is lost in therefore many restaurants. Appreciate your guests for the time you have got them as a result of they will be back, ignore your guests and that they can ignore your restaurant.
I can be back to Talavera. If they'll build a drink and chips and salsa and guacamole that fantastic I can only imagine what they'll do with real food! And if they welcomed me at 4:30 on a Saturday they will love me at dinner! Thus yes, back to Coral Gables it is to Talavera Cocina Mexicana for additional great service and even better food!
