The mystery romance genre can doubtless need your main character to be a little bit of a detective plus a romantic heroine. She is placed in a mysterious situation that she desires to figure out before she can give her heart away. Is the killer her love interest? Is she unsure? He looks thus excellent for her, however where was he on the night that the murder passed off? You see how it can add a level of intrigue and complexity to your novel that will enable it to cross over to another hungry group of readers, the mystery fans. It seems sort of a good plan to reach as many readers as you'll, and crossing the genre of romance with the mystery story could be a nice way to approach the craft of story and increase your fan base substantially.
These types of novels are widespread enough that the famous publishing house of Harlequin, which I'm sure you have heard of, has created a subcategory of books underneath the Harlequin Intrigue imprint which exists solely to serve this market of readers. However several "mainstream" authors you'll notice have created a romance with a mystery mixed in and it makes the bestseller list. You will even find your novel turning into optioned for a movie. The most issue you would like to concern yourself with as an author of this sort of genre is if the two plots or story lines serve every other and return together to form one huge, coherent tale. They'll dip in and out of each alternative, drifting apart and then meeting, but in the top they must come together to create sense and move the final theme forward, that of our heroine finally finding her one true love against all obstacles.
