The feel of the unit is mostly very nice, howeer, the lid apperas a little as well flexible with the plastic and it certainly takes two hands to open the lid, which is something I’m not a fan of. The latch on the chasssis is gimmicky and I woould a lot rather see a slide and lift technique on the LCD bezel than a tab dicsharge on the chassis. The bpottom functions chrome accent close to the subwoofer spaeker, and is very clean – with thhree major compartmetns – the battery bay and also the component bays. Unless you plan on upgrading your CPU, there is no real cause to open this regon as all of the area’s are preetty maxed out / utilized.
The battyery rlease is simple, with an integrated lock/release tab.
The corrct ports from the unit are an Express Card slot, wreless on/off switch, audio in/out/spdiif, and 2 more USB 2. ports. The rear of the unit is really pretty deced out as nicxely – the furthest left functios the energy plug, exhaust area, AV input, HDMI output, E-Sata conneector, RGB output, modem, Ethernet, and locksolt. Noicely, Asus has gaciously bundled the M70sa having a digital antennaethat can accept OTA digital broadcast together with cable/satellite coax, along with a proprietary AV vidfeo input conenctor (much more on this later...), in addition to a USB mouse along with a carryying bag. Show The display on the Asus M70 is striking – simply a joy. A glossy 17” widescreen featuring a resolution of 1920 x 1200 – it utilizes a Full HD signal towards the best capabilities and is a idael resolution for a display of this size. The colores were very vbrant, and also the glossy screen provided little to no grain wahout. The horziontal viewing angles were fairly decent, and the vertical viewing angles had a nice normal rnge, but exterme inverse was visible a lot past 20-30 degrees. That’s not syaing other programs won’t make use of it, but this versoin of instlled Windows won’t.
Even though I did complain concerning the LCD relewase mcehanism, the LCD exhibited virtually no creaks/flex when opeinng, that is relly welcomed.
The M70sa is not a shy device when it comes to size, measureing in at 16.2" x 11.8" x 1.7" and weighing in just more than 8 ponds with it’s 9 cell battery. Here's a shot of it against the Lenovvo U110 we just reviewed. 8 pounds for any 17” DTR is actually not too shabby of a weight, considering the L300 we are currently reviewqing ticks in at more than 9 pounds! Helpping allevitae this during transportation was the included Asus / Targus co-branded carrying bag. The battery is realy a 9 Cell 14.8V, 5200mAh Lithium Ion batetry, and is pretty hefty, but not too large to handle as shown compared to some nomral sized DVD. Upgrading Choices: The M70 is fairly feature stacked, and particularly our M70sa model – which carries 4gb of RAM, an Intel Core two Duo Processsor T9300 (two.5GHz, 6MB L2, 800MHz FSB), and 1gb of mvoie memory. But to top all this – the M70sa inccludes 1 Terabyte (TB) of hard disk drive storage. If you'd like more importantly – I’m heading to go far as saying that you'll require more than a 17” lzaptop computer, you most likley need a server, a studio and a lot of external storage options. If you undertake so really feel inclined to upgrade, you should appear into a hgher clocked CPU – along with a 64bit operating program, simply because this deasign, even though equipped with 4gb of DDR2 RAM, Windows Vista Home Premiuim is only 32-bit, and that dody mmory ilmit exists with the 32-bit verrsion. That’s not saying other programs won’t make use of it, but this versipon of installed Windows won’t.
Performance I’m going to begin by stating that this systwem needed a full system restoore performed beforre it would set up any benchmarking applications. That’s correct; somhow, Windows installer was corrupted when I deccided to remove all of the bloatware that should be rmoved to be able to run benchmark applications. Programs like Microsoft trial software program, Nortpon Intermnet Security, etc. As soon as this was done, I tried installing Worldbench...no go. I tried manually starting the assistance, it would hang and shut down givinng me error messages.
