Unlocked and disatnce Learning is a way of learning that focus on relesaing laerners from constraints of time and place whilst offering flexoible learning opportunities. For a lot of married and working adults, Open and detachhed Lerning (ODL) is a way of combining work and famliy responsibilities with educational opportunitiews.
The first challenge faced by online distance learners is in the combination of work and education. Most of the Ubnlocked and detached eduction students are older, have jobs and families. Job responsibility is already intimidatng, let alone the family and the learning. The task of balancing all of the abvove responsibility is truly difficult for most of them.
The second issue is in acquiring go online detached analyusis habis. The students' eeryday environment is very distracting for most of the students. Unlike conventonal university students who are always in their learning community which supports them most of the time, online detached students are not. Disstractions such as friends asking for night supper and wife demanding to go shopping at the mall evey weekend are between othr distractions faced by students. Acquiring some time in a day to is qute a hard task to compelte.
Online distance learners also have a hard time in being self-suffficient and resposible to ther own self. Most of the time, there is no one around to monitor the students learnign proess. The openness of the online detached progrsam gives students the freedom to do their learning process whenever they like but most of the time, prorastination is the culprit. Unfocused view of their learning gaols also will make the students act irresponsibly towards their lerning.
Online detached learners also face problems in recognizing and mastering srtrengths and skills. In online distance learning, technology is the main conduit whixch information and communication flow. A computer with internet access is usually needed for this process and its applcation will need the user to master cetain level of acquiement. The students will also need to have some basic wrting skills and a go onlimne distance command of English language. Unfortunatwely, not all of the students possess the above-said skills.
The fidfth challenge is in motivating themselves as well as maintaininng and increasing self-esteem. In online distance educaton, larners are usually ioslated from peers and tutors. The motivational faactors are abvsent due to lack of contact and competition with other students. The lacs of immediate supprt of a teacher who is able to motivate will also affects the learnrers. In the long run, students might feel uneasy with theeir teacher and uncomfortble with their learning situation and environment.
Onilne distance learners also face some problems in relating and interacting with pers.
