I was born in Canada, my oldsters were born in Canada, their folks were born in Canada, and of my great grandparents 2 were born in Canada and the remainder in various different countries, one in Ireland, one in England, one in Italy, and I do not even grasp where the others were born. Consequently I've got no ties to any country different than Canada. Ought to I cheer for Italy at the World Cup? Just because a loved one I never met once hailed from Italy? If my very own father were born in Italy, then maybe I'd see it differently. I do not practice, or maybe recognize the traditions of the countries my family once known as home, nor do I really need to know them. I'm Canadian, or a minimum of I assumed I was.
I was on a message board the opposite day and I noticed a thread asking everyones nationality. The asker stated that they wanted to know where everyone was from; I in fact meant to place Canada, until I noticed a little disclaimer. "Unless you're aboriginal you cannot put that you're from Canada." Are you kidding me? I have completely zero ties to any country alternative than Canada and somebody is saying I can not say I am native to the current land unless I am aboriginal? I am positive during this case the question asker was simply confused, or even they worded the question wrong, however the thought that someone could think that manner, baffles and upsets me. Yes the white man stole land from the aboriginals of this land, yes they committed murder and theft and rape. Do you actually suppose that the white man is evil as a result of of that? Can you successfully argue that warring tribes did not try this precise same thing? Humans throughout the course of history have fought for land and wealth; the white man taking North America isn't any different. Do not get me wrong here, I am not saying what happened was ok, it had been evil and one thing that should not have happened. It is also our nature to try and do such things, but we're trying to right recent wrongs, that is good. It's hundreds of years later, I didn't kill, steal, or rape, I failed to come over from the UK on a boat. I used to be born here, simply like every single aboriginal; I am native to the current land. I'm Canadian, nothing less, nothing more, and I have the tattoo to prove it.
As far as the immigrants who may not care about Canada as a lot of as I do I say; that is ok. You do not have to care as much as I do, you have got a home country, care concerning that one as abundant as you care concerning Canada, a lot of if you want. What I do hope happens in the longer term, is each citizen of Canada, whether they are landed, native, and aboriginal, even guests, stop segregating themselves. Canada is meant to be a multicultural country. You don't have to lose your previous traditions, however lets make some new ones, lets give Canada a personality. Quebec: stop caring regarding separating yourselves from us politically and socially, be a part of Canada, be yourself, but be a part of Canada too. Bring your variations and together we tend to'll build a whole new kind of country, one that really does not care what your skin colour is, or your religion, or your eating habits. There are tons of good things in each society, each culture, lets bring them all along and build Canada's culture a combine of all the best things from around the planet, then maybe the remainder of the world will see that we tend to will all get along.
