Your systems registry is basically a storage location for all your programs and files. It houses literally everything from system settings, preferences, applications, hardware/software information and even history on all the actions you have taken from the first day you accessed your windows. The system registry also helps the operating system out whenever you issue a command to it. As you issue more and more commands it takes up space in the registry, eventually it becomes full and begins to affect the functionality of your system.
There is probably only two ways of fixing this problem. The first way you can choose is to manually repair the registry yourself. This process basically entails searching through your registry and deleting entries that are invalid. If you have little to no knowledge on how your system registry works, then I suggest you leave this option alone. Any mistake that you might make could result in your system failing to boot up.
If this ever happens, then you'd have turned a potentially small problem into a big one, resulting in you having to reinstall windows all over again.
The second option available to you is registry cleaner software. This piece of software is able to scan your systems registry, find and detect errors and duplicate entries and fix or delete these errors depending on your request. It can also remove programs that you are no longer using.
All of these duties can be carried out within an hour or so, after the process is complete, your system should be running at full speed once more.
