A small computer network is made up of several systems, no more than ten. You can save space, energy and resources when you have an office or home network setup. In just a matter of minutes you can have your very own network system when you use windows installation guide. The first step you must take when creating your own network, is deciding which system will function as the main server. The main server is the system that is connected to the internet, while the others access the internet through it.

After you have successfully connected all the systems together, your next step will be to name the main server computer, this can be done by right-clicking on 'my computer' and selecting 'properties', then clicking on the 'computer name' tab and selecting 'change'. Your next task is to set a computer name and a workgroup name that will define your entire network system. A confirmation box should appear asking you to restart the system to join your new workgroup, after you've done this; your main server machine is done.

Your next step will be to get the other systems to work on your new network. This can be done by right-clicking on 'my computer' selecting 'properties', then clicking on the 'computer name' tab. Once you're there, your next step will be to click on the 'change' button and change the workgroup name to reflect the one you specified on the server machine.

The computer name you specify is optional, but the workgroup name, must be the same as the one you specified on your main system. Once you've done this, you'll be asked to restart your system, restart your system and your new computer will have joined the network. Follow these steps for every PC you connect to the network.
