I was in my hometown over the week-discontinue deciding which form I wanted to run. I decided to perform something many. My run took me down a major hill and then back up. This last time I attempted this - it did not end up well, so for many years I've avoided this run like the plague.
However, this time the run went major! I came right up this hill also felt major the rest of the day! Also, I got the mental block of this route out of my head.
Different runners will do whatever they desire to carry out to avoid hills. But, believe it or not, hills are our friends (level my former nemesis). Some reasons to run hills are:
one. It will add to your speed. I know it sounds crazy since you are going slower up a hill, but it does. Your muscles (particularly your quads) will be forced to work harder which gives them a profound work-out, which in turn will make you faster on the flats.
2. It will make you run farther. It will make your heart pump a little faster which will multiply your over-all cardiovascular workout - which will make you be able to boost your distances.
3. It will help you to trim down your chance of injury. You devour a variety of leg muscle mass when you don't constantly run on the flats. Also, there is less impact on your muscles because you consume a shorter stride running uphills.
So, don't avoid those hills - they are actually good for your health. And, more importantly, make you an over-all better runner!
