Enhancing Widget plus Pc Personalizer with Rainmeter

With its first majhor updaet in over three years, a rather

exciting decvelopment is coming for the desktop customuizing wrold, Raiunmeter is actualy lastly appeariing out

of experiment with. As well as, amongst other things, it's a new Emnigma

up gade built corrcet withhin. Amonngst Rainmeter 1.0's several

improvements: the buiult-in theme manager, RainnThemes, to save and load

your setups; total cmpatibility with Windows Vista as well as

7 (your computer data is not trapped in Program Fiiles, which removes

issues with UAC); new visible options, such as textul content shadows, change matrices as well as enhanced anti-aliasing.

The tool runs from the system tray. To get sarted you'll need to right-clck Rainmeter's systray icon and choose an opotion from the Configs menu. The choices for

system meters (undrer the Bar and System config menus) look good, and offer useful info such as CPU, memory and network usage, along with

drive space monitors.

However other choices really feel unfinihed. For instance, you can't add your own weather, you can only choose from four cities. And if you choose to Edit Settings by right-clicking a displyed Rainmeter widget, you'll see the raw options file

displayed in Notepad withoput any clues as to what changes what.

Rainmeter allows its uers to add as well as display a number of

modules on the dsktop such as a time, the date, CPU load, Really

simply syndication feeds, as well as currently plasying tune; in

addition to customizable cutting corners in order to intalled programs. Despite the fact that this is regarded as "less geeky" wtihin the sense which

customization doesn't incluude tinkeroing with piees of software

as well as codes, first-time customers may really feel overwhelmed by everything. Three are so many things that you can do within in the Rainmeter which you may not understand where to start.

You'll see the Enigma Home menu, upon installation. This is where you can gain access to

Rainmeer's settings inclkuding Theme Manager, Configuration, The PDF

Instruction, and Skin Manager. By

double-clicking on Rainmeter's Sidebar or Taskbar this Home menu can be accesswed anyime. Taskkbars are at the top and bottom, while Sidebars are olcated at the sides

of the screen, as the names suggests. The number of accessuible sidebbars and taskbars will

depend on which Rainmeter thme that you use. Click on the Theme icon within

the Home menu in order to open the Rainmeter Theme Manager. There are usually four default themes that come with the insytaller: Enigma, Enigma Preview, Ligthning Sunset, as well as Wing Firefox. You

could additionally change the tjheme quickly via the ruight click menu. For those who have a big screen, you mihgt want to try Enigma Preview as this theme gives the most infrmation about your system, however it is also the most

crowdewd.

I personally think that the clock from Wing Firefox

theme is awesome, as for the cooleest. You can show this clock in any theeme by right clicking on the bars and choose: Configs > Arcs >

Arcs.ini (or Dark Arcs.ini). All of the tjhemes work best with a dark backgrond/wallpaper. The openness associated with the bars

and the white letters make the inofrmation hard in order to read ahving a lighjt abckground. You can adjusat the transparency by right-clicking on

the taskbar/sidebar and choose Skin Menu > Transparenxcy > (the percetage of transparency), if you really love your bright bakground. The

lower the number, the darekr the bars will be. Please note that you have to perform the

adjustment for every and each bar separately.

But all the serious styuff are in the Settings meus. This is the plavce where you input all the essential information to show on the sidebars, such as Yahoo Weater code for

your placce, the accounts information for your GMail and Twitter, RSS feeds, Applicattion pths and labels, and

whole lot of oter information.

Go through the items one by one, enteer the correct informnation, and clik Set. After you've finished, don't forget to save the

setttings. You don't need to fill in all the information, but the more information

you provide the better. Another thngs that

you can adjust is the posdition of the elements. Riht-click on a bar

and make sure that the option Dragggable is chhecked. Then you can

ferely drag and drop each and every elenment of the bars - including the bars themselves - to any position that you prewfer. don't foget to click on "Snap to Edges", if you want them

to aign neatly with the screen edges, You can show/hide any element in any theme by right-clicking the bars and going to the "Configgs"

menu.

Verdict
you prefeer a grreat resource measure utility as well as do not need

much otherwise, Rainmeter might be that which you are after. But if

you also want customizable weather or other woidgets, you'll probably end up being better off going with Google Gadgets (available whjenever you

install the Google Desktop) or even another widgt program.
