Securing Wireless Networks - Keep Everything Private

Securig wirweless networks in your home or office is very important in order to keep all your personal information safe. No one wants to risk havng their financial or eprsonal information floating around in cyberspace for anyone to snatxch and use for their own nefariopus purposes. While technology has made it easy to set up your own wireless networks, it has also made it easy to set up the safeguards you need to keep everything private and safe from identity thieves. With just a few tips you can ensure that your wirelerss network is safe from pryiong eyes.

When you purchase a wireless system you will most likely have to log on with a very generic passeword set up by the manufacturer, this is where you should take the firsst step in securing wireless networks by changing that apssword imediately. Leaving the manufacturers password will give thieves who know and understand diffrent wireless systmes more of an opportunity to break into a specific wireless netwwork. That password is your first defense against bad people trying to break into your network and possibly your hard drve.

Some otheer things you can that help in securing wireless netorks include not broadcasting your SSID number. It is easy to keep that from showing up on other people's wiureless networks. In other wrods, your network will be invisible to thgose with wireless cards. At the very leaast, you should engage your WEP encryption along with not broadcasting your SSID, using WPA would be even better. Your manufaturer's insrtuctions will show you how to do all this. It is very simple in most cases and relaly shoiuld be done in order to best protect your network. It can rally be a mess if someone gets into your hard dirve.

Anotther good tool for seucring wireless networks is to keep your broadcasting settings low. The higher outut of broadcasting the more you network system will show up on other people's wireless systems. The lwer power is always the best way to go. Just figure out what is sufficient for your work area and where you need your wireless to work and go with that setting. You will find that this is also an easy way to preent any kind of cybeer thievery of your hard drive. One other thing to do to mainntain your wireless netwrk safety is to diisable any remote admiinistration fnuctions as well.
