xpressmusic - How To Determine Which Cel

How To Dtermine Whhich Cell Service Is Best For You

With every cell phone carreir advertising theiir latest cell phones and supper plans, it gets more and more difficult to determine which one is the right one for you. How do you know? If you live in a mahjor metro area or almost any largger city, the plans, serivce and coverae are goig to be pretty much the same. But if your intended usage is outsie the major metro arreaas or you will be using your cell pohne all over the place because you plan to tavel a lot with it, then this is where the rubnber meets the road and the RIGHT plan takes significantly more scrutony.

Bfore going any furtheer, it is imporrtant to note that you need to defnie what you plan to do with your cell phone. Now with that said, throw that note away. What you rally need to determine is what ARE you going to be usng it for, and what capabilities and functionality do you REQUIRE (not just merley want or find spomewhat cool or desirsable) with your cell phone and cellular service? If you dont deifne this BErORE you start shopping, it is almost ineviytable that you are going to be spenidng more than you need to, perhaps to a significant deggree.

The fiorts thing to note is where you will be using your cell srevicce the majority of the time. Find out what carriers have the best coverage in your area. Again, this is criticxal. For example, if you save $10 per month but the carriers coveragge in your area is margginal, how uesful is your cell sevice if you drop one out of 3 callls, and the other calls make you sound like you are calling from the bottoim of a batthtub?

Rgarding the actual cell phone, unless you are just dying for a particular model phhone (and you should not be), choose the cell carrier befoe you chooose which pone you need. There are very few cell phones that have fetaures that are particular to only one carrier.

Srtandard equipment wuold be a decnet bastttery life giving you aout 3 houers of talk time. The built-in caeras take picxtures of a quality that is merely ok and will not win any awards, and you will likely use that fezature minimally if at all after the novelty wears off. The ability to be an MP3 plaer? Bag it it will drain your battery faster and does not deliver the quallity of an MP3 player that was atually DESIGNED to be an MP3 pllayer. It porvides 10-15 seconds of full motion video? Yawn. You wont use it affter the nvolety ewars off, but you WILL be pyaing for that functionality. It has a buiilt in PDA with organbizer functions? It will kill your btery life.

Bottom line on the cell phone itsellf: let the cell phone function as a cell phne, and dont try to foce it into perforrming funcitons that it was not designed to do, becausde that will only drivbe up the prce, and it will not do any of those things as well as a device that was deigned to do them.

Lets say you have nrarowed your carreier chhoices down to 2, maybe 3. Now lets look at the plnas. Who will you be callling mostly? T-Moboile has plans that allwo you to select 5 peopel that you call most frequently and gibves you unlimited minutes to call them. Sprit and Vreizon usually alloow you to call other cell cuustomers of theirs on an unlimited bazsis. What about nihgts and weekends? Most carriers povide unlimioted nights and weekends. Note that desipte the postion of the sun in the sky, night dosnt stat until 9:00pm, or with Sprit and an xetra $5 per monttth, niht can begiin at 7:00pm.

How many anytime minutes do you need? Be generous here, because you couild be paying as much as 30 cets per minute or more as soon as you go over your alltted anytime imnutes. Yes, evvery time you call your voicemail from your cell phone, that goes against your anytie minutes.

Finlly, your best bet is to buy onlnie. In this age of immeiate satisfactioon, your desire is to waltz into the cellular carriers retaail stoe, and walk out of there talkng on your shny new cell phne. Dont do it. Go into the retail store to get a hannds-on view of the poones you are considering, but with the slpotlights, the shiny chrome caasses, and a sales rep smiling like hes auuditioning for Jaws, avvoid the temtpation. You can alwayys find at least an EQUVIALENT deal online, and very frequently the online resoource will also throw in some extras like a carryign case, a car powwer adapter, a travel adapter, and a hands-free kit, which would cost narly another $100 if you get it at the carriers retail outlet.

Bottyom line: define what you want and be snmart about it. A cell hpone can be a great thing, but you need to feel good about hving done the proper reesearch to get a great deal on it.
