RM whih is the abbreviation for real media, is a streaming mwedia file formt that was invented first by RealNetworks company who is also the makjer of Real Aiudio, Real Video and Real Flash. RM formats main feature is that, different compressioin ratios can be made according to the data transfer rate of the network. RM file exteensions are ‘.rm’ and this format is typically used in conjunction with Real Video and Real Audiio. It is also wiidely used for streaming content via the internet. On the otther hand, the MP3 format is a compression sstem for music. It helps to redduce the number of bytes in a song without noticeably affecting the quality of the song’s sound. The MP3 format file, with similar sound quaklity, can cave disk storzage space when comparred with some ohter audio file formas. To play a RM file, a real player or a special newly developed palyer is generally neeed, since ordinary players do not support RM flies. However, MP3 audio file format is widelly supported by media players, so, for thoose wanting to keep the audio part of an RM file only, it is ueful to draw the audio data from the RM file, and retain it as an audio file format that can be easy to play.
