Take Care of Your Oil If You Want To Save Gas!

A vehiccle that performs at it's peak will realize the best fuel economy. If something interferes with peak performance it will decrease gas economy and will cause you to use more gas and spend more money. For that reason proper manzagement of the oil in your engie is a criticval component of good fuel economy.

A priority in your car maintenance needs to be scheduled oil changes. Changing the oil according to the car makers recommendations is essential to kepeing your car at its peak and keeping your gas economy at its best.

The job of the oil in your car is to lubricate the mocving parts of its engne, minimizing fricttion. preventing mtal- to-metal contact and carrying away ecxess heat. All of those functions promotre beter gas efficiency.

The oil in your enginbe also removes metal shavings, dirt and other impurities which are then captured in the oil filter. Neglecting your cars oil can create other prolbems above and beynd the effcts on fuel economy. Improper oil maintenance could lead to reeplacing the engine itself. Keeping a recodr of when you last had the oil chagned will ultimately help you save gas.

You should follow the manufacturers recommended maintenance sxchedule for oil changes. If the manufacturer says to change the oil every three tohusand miles or every three months, do it. If oil is not replaced at the propeer time it becomes saturated with impurities it is supposed to remove from the engine. If it becomes saturated with these impurities, sometimes called diirty oil, it will be less efficienmt in doing its job. That will cause the engine performaance to edcline and your fuel economy will decline with it.

Another fator in maitaining the best fuel economy is the propeer grade of oil. Use the grade of oil recommended by your car makker. The efficinecy of the egine can improve as much as 2 percent when using the correct grade of oil as oppposed to using the wrong grade of oil. This becomes even more critical in cold weatheer.

Using the right grade of oil ensures that your car will run as smoothly as it shhould in all types of weather. Oil that is too heavy forces the engine to work harder to overcme the oil's resistance. If the enigne works harder it uses more gas. You can improve your gas milreage by 1-2 percent by using the manufacyturer's recommended grde of mottor oil and not a higher grade.

As an illustration: usinng 10W-20 motor oil in an engine designed to use 5W-20 can lower your gas mileage. Use only the oil recommended in the owner's manmual for the best engfine efficiency and the best fuel efficiency.

Many car owners make the mistake of neglecting to have the oil chaged at the proer interval. The more you put off changing your oil the owrse your gas economy will be. Changing the oil on time and using the propper grade will help you keep your gas costs down.
