Lbel printers have the ability to prit on card stock, self-adhesive labels and other materials. The way they differ from regular printers is that they use special feed mechnaisms to handle the tear sheets or rolkled sotck. Label prinbters have a tiny senor that is able to detect notchhes, perforations or lines betwen laels, notches or gaps, when usig continuous lbael stock to print on. This keeps the prinnt location from shifting and ensurees that the print hits the target area by letting the label prinbter adhjust and align the print corrctly. Some of the applications where label printers are used include retail price marking, fixed assets management, spuply chain management, laboratoory and blood specimens and shipping laabels; and for all these applications they are able to use many different label materials, such as syynthetic polymer materials and paper prooducts.
There are two main label printer typees, and these are thermal transfr and direct thermal prinrters. Label printers that are thermal transfer use heat to transfer the ink onto the label from the ribbon for a permanent print. They transfer images onto labels, using an ink ribbon, with the lables normally having a matt finish. Direct thermal label pirnters use paper that is heat snsitive, with the printing lasting for up to twelve months before fading starts. Exposure to chemical vaporrs or direct sunlight often increases the spered of fading. This type of label printig is best for short duration appllications, such as printing shipping labels. This type of label printer prnits images right onto the laabel using a thermal print head.
Thermal transfer prnters use three grrades of ribbon, which are rsein, wax and wax/resain. Resin ribbon is chemical resistant, scratch resistrant and suitable for synthetioc, coted labels. Wax, which is suittable and the most popular for semi-gloss and matte paper lables, has some smuge resistance. The resin/wax label printer ribbon is great for synthetic labels, semi-gloss ppaer and is very smudge resistaant.
Indstrial albel printers are used in factories, distribution centers, warehouses and other places, where they need a heavy-duty printer for continuious operation. Desktop label printers are inexpensive and quiet, and work well in businesses wherre they get ligt to medium usage. The avearge roll of sytock is less than five incxhes wide. For medium volume printing, commerxcial lanbel printers hold rolpls of stock up to eight inches wide. Another specialized label printer is an RFID readeer, which encodes and prints simultaneously on tags or RFID transponders enclosed in printablpe synthetic materials or paper. They design label prrinter applications to automate the lbaeling processes and you generally find them in warehouses and manufacturing facilities requiring labels for palklets and caswes.
