One option that is becoming an increasingly more popular option for Internet without phone lines is DSL. In the past getting DSL, or Digital Subscriber Line, meant that you had to have a traditional phone line installed. Today, however, it is possible to get a dedicated DSL line that provides only Internet without the phone services. You can still use the line for phone by using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) if you need it. DSL without phone can be purchased from traditional providers such as AT&T but third party providers are also offering the service on a reseller basis.

Other options for Internet service without phone lines are cable and satellite. These companies offer a wired solution using a cable modem or similar hardware. Many provide stand alone service as well as service bundled with television viewing packages. VoIP is also an option if you go with cable or satellite for Internet without phone lines.

Wi-Fi, or wireless technology that is transmitted via radio waves, is yet another option for getting your Internet service without phone lines. In order to take advantage of Wi-Fi you need access to a hub that transmits the signal. Some cities already have municipal Wi-Fi in place and others have it in the planning process. If you are lucky, you may be able to access wireless Internet from a local business. A current trend is for neighbors to pool their resources and share wireless Internet via a router.

Regardless of which technology you select in order to get Internet without phone lines, you owe it to yourself to do a little shopping around before making a decision. Prices can vary widely. Providers often offer extremely competitive prices in order to attract customers. You need to be sure to read the fine print though since after the promotional period had expired the prices can increase dramatically.

The availability of technology that makes Internet service without phone lines is increasing every day. With a number of viable methods already on the market, there is no reason why consumers can’t do away with their traditional landline access if it makes sense for them.
