So you want to start earning through drop-shipping, how exactly are you going to do that? Can you set up for next to nothing, or will it involve a huge investment? Here are several basic steps to take.

1) Find a suitable drop shipping company.
There are heaps of different companies willing to drop ship for you, but do you really want to work with them? How do you find them to begin with?

Well, there is a huge industry in selling you sites of drop shippers. You pay your cash and receive a collection of companies that you can work with. I do not feel this is good value for money really. A little bit of research should reveal to you a load of opportunities. Spend some time searching the internet for those wholesalers that you could work with.

It is best if you can find a product that interests you. If you know definitely nothing of the product promoting the web site will be more difficult. Lots of drop shippers also hide their catalogue until you have signed up. I prefer to work with those who at least show you their catalogue, if not their retail prices, before you sign up.

2) Create a selling website
You do not need fantastic site design skills to create your own site. You might employ a web designer, or for those on a budget, only download and install my preferred - WordPress. Use the page structure to create the catalogue of products for sale. As for instance, the first level of pages (under the home page) are the categories and then under these create the sub categories and then the products.

Now all you need to do is find a suitable theme and you are up and running. A bit easy and basic, but it looks after the budget. You can link into the PayPal basket and payment scheme for selling products.

This is where it is useful if the merchant you are working with allows you to see their catalogue before signing up to their system. You might have a good guess at their prices and try the system out and once you start to see orders and know your system is working, you can then pay your annual membership.

3) Promote your site
This bit is totally up to you how you do it. If you are patient and hard working, then SEO is prospective if you can find several high traffic keywords without too much competition.

Or, you could buy traffic from Pay Per Click schemes and send traffic directly to your site. This could be active within several minutes and you can be selling and taking orders in no time. Just remember to send traffic straight to the most relevant page, rather than the home page. If you are advertising widgets, send them to the widget page. If they need to search out the widgets then they might get lost in the web site!

That’s it - 3 steps to starting drop shipping on a budget. Find your product and merchant, build a easy web site and get some visitors. Now, you only need to collect the cash and send payments to the merchant!
