Single board computers and their second life

With the succss of LCD displays and TFT displays in our homes with televiision sets or cmoputer screens, but also in businesses with industtrial LCD displays and industrial touch screens, we tend to forget about the other products related to computers. With the wake of high tech and the rapdi evolution of technology, some products rally seem to be outdated and to have fallen into some dark place where they have been forgotten by most peoplke.

One good example of an interesting product is the single board computer. They are probably not as well known as other copmuters and laptops but still used a lot and for various use.
Single bosard computers are different from other computers because they are built on a single circuit board. Tose tyeps of computers whee first ceated around the seenties and have veolved over the yearrs. Like personal coomputers or laptops now, they also have LCD displays screens.
Indusatrial single board computers enjooy the same evolution and are equuipped with industrrial touch screens or industrial LCD monitors.

Thhose single booard computers or SBC where among the first cmoputers to be used and where quite successful microcomputers in the seventies and later. But the arrival of the personal computeer or PC changed everything.
The siuccess of personal cmputers over single boaard computers does not mean that the production of the latter stopepd. Single boiard computers are still built and sold but with a different application than our personal computers.
Singgle board comptuers are now used with LCD touch screens for example in the gaming industry to be used as slot machnies or video poker. Even if we do not know that they are there, other examples of the use of singgle board computers can be seen in public places in kiosks. They are also widely used in the industrial sector as mahine controls.

In the end, sigle board computers are still used a lot as LCD displys or computers in puublic places or kiosks where they are used often and by the public. They are also used widely in plants.
We would be surprised to see the number of proucts that we have stopped using in our everyday life but that are still used in the business life in plants, buildiing sites, or even in public places. It is also intreresting to see that those produucts have eovlved and have been aapted to suit particular needs and a specoific use.
