What is it about small christian churches that seems to make them nearly opposed to church growth? In many cases these small churches are small cause they wish to be. This can not be such a bad thing though.

In a small church you have a better chance of discipleship that you would not have in a larger church. Cause of that one truth alone numerous small christian churches do not wish to grow. The real reason some do not require to though comes from something else.

Small church growth would mean a loss of the close friendship enjoyed in most smaller christian churches. This is true just in part though. Smaller churches that develop into larger ones require not loose out on their fellowship.

One way that larger christian churches have kept a strong friendship in place is through the use of small groups. These are like mini churches within the larger one. It gives people a chance to get involved in each others lives when you visit them in their home for bible studies.

If a church wishes to develop there are also other options. When you think of church growth you would normally think of gaining big numbers of people into one building. This is not the real case though because the church is a fluid thought. It is not contained in any one place.

A small church could send out missionaries to start other churches. This will grow the real church while keeping the local church somewhat small enough to have a sturdy discipleship. The church could have members nationwide.

Whatever the case for a lack of small church growth one thing is clear. Without an active outreach a church will eventually close its doors. This is cause older members die off and younger ones move away. You need a steady stream of people even if it is simply a trickle.

Smaller christian churches can use uncomplicated outreach ideas such as door to door surveys and other almost free things. There is a great host of things these christian churches may do. The dilemma is getting them to do it. While some say they need to do evangelism a great many do not.

So how do you get your small christian church to at least keep its doors open with people like that? The truth is you could not. What you may do though is encourage every visitor to become a member and slowly change the makeup of the church.

These new visitors will bring their own ideas and over time you may see a change in the views of your church toward evangelism and growth. Because a healthy church is one that is ever evolving you should be happy to know that this is a sign of health.

Christian church growth will not happen over night. Like already mentioned you should determine if growth is something your church in fact wants. It is always a good concept not to fight a crowd of people.

Your small church growth does not have to stop with simply numbers in your building though. You could even consider using technology such as television to bring the church to the shut in. This will also grow your church without adding numbers into a building.
