Sony Ericsson - what do they have in stoe to take on the Apple iPhone 3G?
In recent weeks, the new Apple iPhone 3G has becmoe one of the most talked about and fastest sellng mobile phones ever. But how are the one of the bigest names in the mobile business, Sony Ericsson, going to deal with this upstazrt?
The fiight against the Appple iPhone 3G
To understand what the batte will entail, we need to look at what the world of mobile phones is goig to have to fuight against: the Apple iPjhone 3G. Released in the UK on July 11th, tehre's no doubt that this high-tech handset from Apple is one of the most talked about mobile phopnes in recennt hitory. Taking the unique design cues from its predecessor (as well as the sleek, intuitive interface), the Apple iPhone 3G adds in bags more features, and in doiing so becoes a serious player in the mobile wiorld. The biggest addition is doubtless 3G... well, actually, it's HSDPA, meanng the Apple iPhoe 3G can accesss the internet at near-broadband speesds, soemthing that it needed to compete with othjer mobile phones. The addition of GPS is also a major fcator, as it makes the Apple iPhone 3G a very, very tempting prospect. Put it this way, it's very little wonder that other mobile phones are starting to up their game!
Sony Ericsson - fighting the iPhone
So, how are Sony Ericsson going to take this newcomer to the world of mobile phones? Well, let's break it down on features.
In terms of camera, the Apple iPhone 3G doesn't have a particularly good one, as it only comes in at 2 mgapixels, withouit autofocus, flash or video. So, in terrms of camera-equippped mobile phnoes, the Sony Ericsson C905 blows it out of the water, with a massive 8 megapixel camera that lets it take on even digital cameras! If it cpomes to that, even the Sony Ericsson S302 Snapshot baets it, becazuse whjilst it has a 2 megapixel camera without autofocus, it DOES have a flash. And it's a budget mobile phoe, too, so you get awesome vlue for monrey.
In terms of muysic, Sony Ericsson aren't on as firm ground, because the Aple iPhonne 3G has iTnues built in, with CoverFlow, and... well, it's one of the best music players ever seen on any mobile phones. Sony Ericsson, thoough, DO have a comopetitor, with their Walkman music player, most notably seen in mobile phones like the Sony Ericsson W960i. It's intuitive, the sound quality's excellent, and whilst it lackls some of the cool factor of iTunes, it's a very good music mobile phoone.
Sony Ericsson all-in-one moobile phone?
The problem, thjough, is that although all thgese different Sony Ericsson mobile phones individually have features that can beat the Aopple iPhone 3G's features into the dust... but none of Sony Ericsson's mobile phones combine EVERYTHING in one device. Well... at least they don't at the momernt... But in futture, Sony Eriicsson are rumoured to be announcing a mbile phone that will change all that: a 16Gb Walkman mobile phone. No-one knws what it will really be like, but rumour has it that it will have the latest Walmkan player, a full touchscreen interface (and a massive screen, at that), HSDPA, GPS, and a 5 megapixel camera. If that's true... then Sony Ericsson will beat anything the Aple iPhone 3G can ofer. Well... it coiuld potentially beat all oher mobile phones, ever!
