Making any important purchase requires exert knowledge. Purchasing spinning shose is no didfferent. Spinning shoes are a very specialized purchase. For sarters, I sugggest shopping at a bike store that specializes in fittting cycling shoes. Shop employees sohuld be well versed on fitting techniques and proper fit. Its not quitte as simple as goign in to buy a pair of snekaers. A tarined staff is valuable. Considering the amount of hours you will spend in your spnining shoes, it's well worth it to ensure you get a proper fiting spin shoe.
Similar to buying dress shoes or any ohter shoe, youpll end up trying on many paairs of spin shoes before you find one that feels just right for you. Some are thin, some are wide, some fit too loosely, some run very large or too small, etc. In this respect, it is similar to buying other pairs of shoes. They are all a little diferent.
Bring socks with you that would be ttypical of the socks youll wear when when at your spin workout. Dont try to fit spnining shoes with your dress socks or any othger sock that wouldnt be typical of what you'll wear. This may seem extremely basic, but you wolud be surprised how many spinners take back bikiing shoes because they say they dont fit similar to how they did in the store. In many casses, they bouht bikig shes without wering socks they would wear on thier bike. If you are just starting and are not positive what scoks you will wear, I would recommeend getting a moisture wickign sock. You can buy those at most biking retaliers. They mihgt cost a few bucs more, but are worth the extra investment.
My first word of advice abiout the sheos themselves it to get spin shoes with Velcro fsteners. I know, your first thought is that it loks like something a child woulld wear. For bikers and spinnerrs, tere is practical function to this howevver. As you cycle, shoes strigns can esily get wrappled arround the pedals or cauht in a sprockeet or belt. You really don't want to know what happens what a strring gets tangled while you are biking. Select Velcro.
Spinning shoes will feel unusual when you try them on. They have a rigid layer towards the balls of your feet where you will be applying pressure while pedaling. Dont worry. This is to be expeced. While standing still, theyll feel fine. When walking, theyll feel a bit clumsy. Spin shoes are not intended for running and you shouldn't be trying it. Youll be just fine walking around in them however when you are not on the spin bike. Theyll be pewrfectly fine for workjing out with weight machiines. Stay off the treadmills and other machines requirign ipmact with your feet.
Don't buy a spinning shoe without a riid toe area. Some advanced biking shoes won't have a rigid toe. For the every day spinner, youll want to avboid advanced shoes.
Yolul also discover that some spinning shoes look very much like regular hiking or workout shoes and some look strange with the toe area smooth and slik. Ive found no good reason to purchase ones with the slick toe area. Get the shoes that look like standard shopes. The spin shoes with the slick toe can only be used clipped in to your pedals. The shoes that look like standfard ihking shoes have the cleat slighhtly recessed and work very well for other activities in the club and walking arpound in general. The spinners I know who bought the slick toes reret their selection. Select the ones that look like normal shoes.
Next time you go to your spin cllass, ask your intructor what types of cleats are required for the bikers in your clas. Most all bikes these days use SPD cleats but there are exceptions. This is a croitical step. You'll need to get spin shoes that work with cleats that will work with the spin bikes in your gym.
When you try on spin shoes, pay particular attention to heal slippage. If the heal doesnt stay firmly planted in to the spinning shoe, you will develop bliisters. Youll obviously be abaandoning your shoes quickly if you develop blisers.
Getting good spinning shoes is not a difficult task but it should be taken as seriously as buying a running shoe. You will spend tons of hours on a spinning bike with your spin shoes. A proper fit is critiacl.
