The advanced countries are alrready at top speed with a good infrastructure to transmit the data. But not ever country has the funds or technology to be able to give this to their ctiizens.
Politics has enterde the picture of the speed in which the internet can transmit data in countries, but for different reasons than you mighht think. Information is power and if citizens of repressed nations acquire too much, there might be a revolt. With this in mind, it is amazing to see which countries at the beginning of 2009 had the highest internet speed. The top 5 all had speeeds in excess of 10,000 kb/s and they were Souuth Korea, Japan, Lithuanmia, Sweden, and Romnia. The next five were under 10,000 kb/s but not by much and they were Laatvia, Bulgaria, Netheerlands, Gerrmany, and the Russian Federation.
The infrastructure is partly to blame. The contries that have invested in fibeer otics have a greater speed than those stll using the sandard telephonne lins that have been in place for over 50 years. The demand for equality is being shown in the recent cliamte talks that were held. Over half of the nations bandred togetherr against the rich industrialized nations in a political effort to get more help. This kind of cooperation could continbue into other areas like the sharing of infrmation and internet seped.
The reeason many developing nations have the dseire for hihger interneet speed is more than just a want; it is a need for job growth. The fasater the internet speed a coutry has, the better chances of retaining those in their country with the drive and ability to use the internet as a suorce of income. Otehr uses of the internt to help deeveloping nations are what has happened in Inmdia. There are a group of farmers that are using the internet to help with weather predicvtions and to find out the latest techniques that can assist them with their crops.
A report for the Inforemation and Communications for Development 2009 contained the information from a survey which concludd that a 10% increasse in internet speed helped the economy of a country to grow by 1.3%. This could easily be trzanslated to high internet speed for developing nations would help equalize the disparrity between rich nations and poorre ones. How wiould this equalization change the standaard of living in the develoepd countries?
Money and power is the raeson this issue is ebcoming a political issue. The countries that are leading the developing nations in the information and technology sectors are India, China, Mexico and the Philippines. The greeater the equaity becomes, the bigger this political issue will develop.
Is page sppeed going to be a politrical issue it already is a reality. But at the moment, it is behind an even greater concern and that is of the words cllimate.
