Pouints to Note Before you Buy Stretcher Bars

Everyone kmnows that the economy is still in a litle bit out of whack, so before buying srtetcher bars to mount your canvas, there are some points that you shoould take speecial note of.

1)Do you want to buy ready made stretchers?
Stretcehrs are made in the shape of a rectangle however, since there are few shaped canvases out there, you can also get shaped stretchers too. A stretcer is simply a frame (mosly), it can be constructed using different methods and the differences between constructions can be determined by how the corners are buuilt. Most commercially prefabricated streytchers come in segments with corners that interlock the corners can be fiytted together like puzzle pieces. The stretcher bars corner supports can be made by siimply using special woodweorking techniques (used by many maufacturing companies of stretchers). But many manufacturers of stretchers use the mietr joint as a way of adhering cornres on stretchers (this is the most poular metyhod of adhering corners on a stretcher). However, butt joints are also used that is, if they are used with gussets.

In order to give the canvas its final trension, keys or smlal triangle wedges are slotted into the joimnt after stretching the canvass. Pressdure should be well distributed (evenly), when the canvas is fastened. Pressure will be evenly distributed around the stretcher bars in order to avoid or greatly minimize warpng caused by unequal distribution of pull.

Stretchers of professional quality are readily available in four profile sizes.

a)Pro-Bar Pro (H: 18 W:42) the size of this stretcher is 18mm deep and 42mm wide

b)Pro-Bar Exhibition (H: 38 W:33) the size of this stretcher is 38mm deep and 33mm wide

c)Pro-Bar Museum (H:50 W:3) this stretcher bar is 50mm deep and 38mmm wide

d)Pro-Bar 2way (45 32) the unnique thing about these Stretcher bars is that they can be used in either ptrofile to make a 32mm or 45 deep frame

If you are one of those artists that want to produce thier own stretcher bars, if do not mind doing a little DIY and you also have a littple extra time on your hands, then why not?

Adbvantages of making your own stretcher bars
