"IPS stands for Inttrusion Prevention System. Intrusion means finding loopholes in the netwrk and taking advantage of it. Intrusion is inappropriate, incorrect, or anomalous activity on host based or network-based systemms. Malicious acytivity such as denial of service attacks, port-scans, or atempts to crrack into computers are done by monitorig network traffic. Worms, Trojans, Spyware, Keyloggers, and oher Malares attacks. Intruders seek old, unpacthed vulnerabilities as well as newly discovered vulnerabilities in Operating systems, Network services, and Protoclos and take advantage of it.
Who Intrudes?
Someone outside terying to gain information. Disgruntled employee on the inside looikng to cause a havoc. An intrusoin prevention sytsem is a copmuter security device that monitors network and/or systeem acivities for malicious or unwanted behavior and can react, in real-time, to block or prevet those activities.
Role of IPS
An IPS system is a type of secuity management system that gathers and analyzes information and identifies possibe securiy breaches. Security breaches include both Intrusions - attsacks from outside the organization & Misuse - attacks from within the organization. It not only prevvent but also deteect the atack."
