Some online income generating methods are more difficult than others, but there's no question that simply selling products via the web is so easy almost anyone can do it. It really doesn't matter, so it's personal preference, you can make your own informational products - or just be an affiliate marketer. There will always be challenges of one kind or another in any business, and you should know that you will produce your fair share of mistakes, as well. But in this article we'll focus a few common IM mistakes that you can expect to avoid after reading about them.

One of the most common mistakes Internet marketers make is they don't really put in the effort to build their own email lists. It can be very difficult to build a sustainable business if you don't try to retain your customer's email address. Making repeat sales to previous customers is quick and easy compared to the work you have to do in finding new customers. If you spend the time building an email list, you can send a quick message to those people informing them about new products you have. You should think of your mailing list as being the biggest business asset you have. The people on your list are there for a reason. They may feel trusting towards you for sending them the information they wanted to learn more about. Building your list is a great start, but you'll see far more success if you can build a relationship with your subscribers. The more your subscribers trust you; the better will be your chances of success with them. You can build your list in a number of ways. You might have a list of past customers, people who want to receive your newsletter or just people who joined to get a free gift. It doesn't matter which option you choose to build your list, but it's important you don't buy one. A list you build yourself will have people on it who are willing to receive messages from you. Having a general list with just anybody on it will just weaken your efforts.

The debate of blog vs website continues to rage, but many IM marketers consider not using a blog to be a mistake. While the static site has its pluses, there are tremendous benefits to going with a blog in your online business. But using a blog is just one factor out of many that are part of a business. A blog seems to be particularly appreciated by search engines, and you can get faster results with the blog platform. The blog structure, with commenting, simply lets you talk to your market so that is a powerful factor right there. Anyone can setup a blog in less than a half hour using blogger.com or Wordpress blogs. There's a good chance most IM marketers will tell you to use the Wordpress platform, or other blogging platforms, and then get a domain name of your own. That will create a more professional appearance, and you'll have complete control over your blog. It's surprising how many people establish a blog and then maybe get tired of it and stop paying attention. Update it on a regular basis and see to it that the content is fresh and unique. As you see, there are lots of good reasons for having a blog, and there are even more that we didn't discuss.

Being in business, you'll be at a disadvantage if you're not able to do at least a little thinking out of the box. It's extremely important to stand out of the crowd if you want to be successful on the web. The simple reason for that thinking is the amount of competition on the net in any market. There are a lot of marketers who don't even bother going the extra steps to stand out, so that is in your favor if you're willing to do it.

They seem to go the "copy the best, forget the rest" route. So perhaps just try to be unique because you are. Be unique and develop your own products instead of using PLR, or Master Resale Rights material. You would be surprised at how easy it can be to create your own products.

It's really not that hard to sometimes forget the human aspect to online marketing. It's about perspective and that's important because people can sense if you're sincerely trying to help them with your products, or not. You can try seeing a picture of a single person when you write, and then that will actually come through in your writing. You'll have more success when people feel you're genuine, sincere, and not just someone who looks at them like they're a credit card. So in your autoresponders, be sure to set it up so your emails use their first name. If someone writes to you, always be professional and courteous with them. People will appreciate your attitude, and they'll like you for it and trust you more. The only reason why people make these mistakes is because of lack of knowledge and preparation. Keep the points we discussed above and apply them practically to your business.
