Every Christian will inform you that they feel affection for God. Not many of them nonetheless will advise you they commonly share in Bible study. This may perhaps not appear like it but it is a direct contradiction. How can you say you love God if you do not want to take notice of what He has to speak?

That is what Bible study does for the Christian. It is more than merely discipleship. Bible study is something that helps you open your ears to listen to what God could be speaking. The Bible comes with several warnings and commands for life. It even tells you how to fall in love with God. If we do not study the Bible how are we to know these spiritual truths?

Every relationship should have communication in it. The Christian relationship with God is no different. God may speak through lots of methods to us but the principal way He does is through the written word. If we do not listen to it and study the Bible we may possibly be ignoring our God and hurting that relationship.

So how do we develop a love for the word of God? Actually it ought to come naturally. When you fall in love with somebody you obviously want to take in all about them. That is what first drives a Christian to open the Bible.

After time though in all relationships communication begins to break down. This is because it feels like we already know all about each other. I know that when I spend time with my spouse there has been moments of silence purely since we didn’t know what to converse about.

This similar thing happens to Christians. After you study the Bible a while you can start to think you already know what it claims and not have a robust craving to pick it up. The truth however is that even when you know everything about someone they can constantly amaze you.

The Bible is the same way. You can read it over and over but not pick up all in it. I have studied it for more than ten years and I nevertheless find new things. It may possibly be as plain as finding something I forgot.

The finest way to do Bible studies is to bask them in prayer. Ask God to show Himself to you. Is there something you do not know about Him? Ask Him to show it to you through your Bible studies.

In short we will miss out on a lot if we do not take usual discipleship Bible studies. We may even harm our walk with God through letting apathy come into our hearts. Developing a discipline of Bible study we can be sure not to let that happen.

So at the moment if you call yourself a Christian it is time to unlock the Bible so that you will know how to live your life before God and men. You are intended to grow in God and one day teach others. Frequent discipleship bible study will help that to come about.
