Part II
Social marketing is more about networking, relationships, and helping people than outright self-promotion. If you do promote yourself, or products, you'll quickly discover that people will not appreciate it. There's really never a problem with putting up your own content, everyone does it, but it has to be quality content that contributes something. All these sites follow a quality standard that you need to follow and each of them have it laid out differently. You'll want to be socially responsible and polite, so always be sure to bookmark other people's content, as well. You're just contributing and helping to add value to the site. In addition to building your good will, you'll be learning how these sites really work.
There are submission times that are better than others, too. Making it to the first page, and sticking to it, can only be done within about a period of 24 hours.
You can achieve good things with these sites, but it will take some time to get there and will not be an overnight thing. As such, you should try instead to get people to visit your site again and again. There are very many ways to achieve that, and you can offer various kinds of incentives designed to help people in some way. Once you've accomplished that, then your existing marketing processes need to make them want to return.
