As you probably know by now, cruise careers are highly sought after for good reason. As well, you may have already decided you'd like to work on a cruise ship. If you are fresh out of school, or in a career transition however, you may be faced with a decision making process for which cruise career is best for you? As with determining any other career path or job, choosing a job on a cruise ship is a matter of gathering the positives and negatives, in addition to evaluating how you can provide the most value to the cruise line.
These questions should be top of mind when evaluating cruise ship jobs to apply for. Some of them assist you to determine how you can provide the best service to the cruise line, while others can help you find out what kinds of jobs will enhance your personal experience during a contract:
What are you naturally good at?
What kinds of people do I want to be surrounded by all day?
How can you best serve the passengers?
What do you consider enjoyable over several months timeframe?
Do you prefer a more casual, relaxed atmosphere, or more formal?
What times of the day do you prefer to work?
How can you maximize personal time, or time to visit the cruise destinations?
There are probably dozens more questions you should consider, but this should be a good starting point. Don't overanalyze though, you may want to start by considering what you would enjoy doing while maximizing your off time enjoyment. For instance, if you'd like to see the sites while the ship is at port, you may consider night jobs, such as working in a lounge, bar, or anything that is active at night, rather than during the day.
