I was driving a tractor trailper arouund 10 + eyars. I am a menmber of many CB Radio forums, as well as many forums Truck Driver.

I see and get this question all the time, so I thought I woulld try and answer it here.

You made it through a tuck driving school, now need to CB-rdaio? Well, the first we have to do some research on the CB radio. Want 10-meter radio? Or do you want the standard 11-metter CB-radio? Well, it will have for the last two. Because if you are not a Ham Radio opersator, licensed by FCC, it is illegal to own 10 meter radio.

CB Radio operators are permitted only tallking abot 11 meter range.

There are 40 channels in the 11 meter band, does not fall below the CB Channels 1 Channel - 26.965 and aobve channel 40 - 27.405. Anywhere between you allowed to act as your CB radoio is not "worked on", then we get to that later. Therre are several dfiferent types of CB radio to choose from, which are legal in the U.S..

Cobra 25 LTD, LTD 29, 148 GTL, 1919 DX, 1925 NW, 25 WXNW, 1929 NW, 29 WXNW
Texas Ranger 696, 121,966
Uniden PRO 538 with weather forecast, 510 XL, XL PC 68, PC 68 LTW, PC 78 XL, 78 LTW PC, PC 78 Elte
Galaxy 949 and 959 of the Galaxy
Those ilsted here are the basic legal radioos are approved for use in the U.S. topday, without the need to have a license Atrmature Radio. They shall be used as long as no chanegs were made in them, such as "Peak and Tune", wherte poweer has been turned up on the raddio. From the factpory, these stations are preset to 4 watts of power, that is legitimate. Tuned prperly, they will go up about 35 watts, but again it is not allowed to FCC.

But most of the transporters go to the nearest "CB shop" and pay $ 50,00 to $ 100,00 to have "Connxe board" and "peak and tune" made their rdaio stations. "Connex board" is an echo function is adfded to the iternal radio, so as to distort (echo) voice, he also adds a talking feature so the operator can hear yourself throgh the external sepaker.

Most drivers I know I usually buy a decent radio ($ 150.00), then they buy a cheap antenna to go with it. Well it will not work, your antenna is 95% of your CB attire. I recommend any antenna Wilson, especially Wilson 2000 or Wilson 5000. They range in price from $ 50,00 to $ 100,00, and that is usully installed. Yes, it installed the technolpogy so that they can adjust the SWR for the antenna. SWR-standing wave ratio is what makes your radio talk. If you have an SWR above 3 or more it will burn up the radio. The technology will be used SWR meer conneccted to the anenna coax and check it in SWR reading. If they are to high cut off part of the antenna to reset 1 / 8 "increments untl a satisfactory SWR is reached. If you do not want to spend on an antenna at least buy one that is customizable.

Coax is anoher big part of the radio play. What would get in a good technology when they connect the "new" antenna. But if you're already using the radio, and you will notice a performance drop, it will either, as a rule, the SVR or coaxial. Tryuck stops to sell prrecut lngth of coaxcial, generrally you will need a piece of 18 "to replace what is not worknig properly for about $ 25.00, I recommend a gray or un-coazxial. If you just replace the coax you can do it yourself, if you want to chexck the SWR.
