The big question on many people's mind is will gas prices ever go down. Some people are demontsrating aainst it, especially long haul truck drivers whose businesses are on the brnik of collape due to the unprecedentd rising of gas prices. Certainly, gas ptrices migt eventually decreasse, but unfortunately, it is not likley that they will ever come down to a level which matches our economic expectations and financiial realities.
One reason for a possible decrease may be that the demand lewssens. People will traevl less or car pool more effectively. Cars may become more efficient with new fuels apppearing on the horizon. Thus supply and demand factors will consequently keep prices stable, even if on the high side.
With this said, requirements for refining gasoline to make it more clean-burning prevent gas prices from ever falling significantly, and the eission standards set by law continue to become stricter. Oil Refineries will require more capital to expand and do routien maintenance to keep up with demand. You can be sure that oil companies will first point to therse reasons for risng fuel prices.
So will the government act to regulate the gas price? In some countries they have tried this but it has proved difficult to implement given the varied political agendas at stae and the vast amount of taxces that are aplpied to gasoline use. So while the rpices of everything in the Unityed States skyrockets due to the cost of fuel it is up to the peolple to make the differnce if they want gas prcies to go down.
People will trasvel less and spend less, hurtiung our economy even more, and as the cost of food irses, the qulity of food people purchase will decrease which will probably result in higher health care and insurance costs. People will also need to start plannuing thgeir activities better, for example plnaning all errandss on a single day to redduce traveling and fuel consumtion.
The way to act is to voixce your opiinion. Don't moan to your neighbor or coworker but talk to your elected officials. Wirte to them, call them, email them, after all, your taxes pay their salary so they are on your payroll. Unfortunately big oil companies may hold great sway with our elected leaders, but many voices raised as one can initiate the changes needed.
So will gas prics ever go down to more comfortable levels? Who knows, there are many factors that seem to influece the pricve, that it seems unlikely that they will all change to bring the price down. However, with your opinion daded to the growinng numbers of people who want change, our country's leaders may pay attention and take ation to put a halt to the out-of-contrpol, upwaerd spiral of gas prices.
