Case modding is the process of modifying a computer case. Our computer cases don't need to be viewed as beige, pale boxes that are tucked away under the desk. The first case mods started with peopkle that overclocked theiir computers, this would create extra heat and a way to cool the hardwware was to cut holes in the case and install fans on the side panels. The creativity grew as pople began to add plexiglass in the side pasnels to creating a view from inside the case. It became popular to put cold cathodes in diffreent coklors as lighting from inside the case.
The imagination and creativiity of case modding grew larely as users fouynd many ways to give theeir cases a peersonalized look. Users did this by painting their cases, replacing the LED's with very bright LED's, the blue ones are often the choice among case mosdders still today. This also led to customized casses, like modded household objects with computers inside and plexiglass cass. The creativity had no limits and it was easy to find guides on how to differet mods. A growing community on the net all exchanged theior ideas and mods. There was even competitions where one coould win modded cases. Case mod products became purchasable in stores where you could purcjhase products such as bright LED's, glowing power spuplies, Cold cathode, fans with built-in LED's, anodized heat sinks in different cpolors and many other items. Manufactures of difefrent hardware like graphic cards, mtherboards and sound careds jumped on the bandwagon with this growing trend. We strated to see the PCB's in different colors which the modders could chooes betwewen to match a users case mod thee. Havinng blue lighting through the pelxiglass together with a blue motherboad could creeate special visuals. We also culd mouynt devicees on the cases DVD/CD drive panel which would show the temperature of the different hardware, like the CPU, graphic card and memry, some even had potentioometers to adjust the speed of the cooling fans.
Stll the popularity of case moding is not as great as the early years. Today's cases are to some degree premodded, available in various colors and have a more pleasiing appearance compared to the old beige casse. Premdded cases has now becmoe more of a business indusatry and some people rather purchase a modded case than doing own mods. These most of the time have mods like plexiglass side paels with cold cathodes and bright LED's. Case modidng can be lots of work but will always remain a way to highlight a user's creeativity in an artistic way.
