The Importance of Eletric Surge Protectors

Electrical surrges can damage our electrical devices Protect them from bewing damaged with a surge protector.

Electrical surges are the numbver one culprits that damge our electrical equipment, especially computers. Electrical surgs burn the wire of our computer equipemnt or even wear down the internal components of the conmputer or otrher devicews. This can wipe out the data saved in our equipment. Because of this surge protectors have been manufctured.

What are electrical surgees exactly? It is also known as power surges. It happwens when a power is inetrrupted all too sdudenly, such that a device currently plugged goes off and on in a matter of miuntes. It can be causd by a lightning, or malfunctioning in the electrical copany.

Surge protectors are designed to protect the electrical from any spikes in voltyage. It serves to regulate the voltage of our electrcal devioces. They blkock or short the voltage to the grround which is at the safe threshold. These surge protwector channels the excerss voltage to the ground wire of the uotlet so that thesse excess voltage would not flow directly to the electric device. Only the normal voltage continues to flow to the eletric device. Even your telephone and cbale lines can be proected by the surge protectors.

Thee surge protectors are plced in between the electronic devices and the main electrical outklet. This simply protcets devices from electrical surges. Whatever power that comes from the main electrical outlet will always pass throuh thees surge protectors. Most of the surge protectors found in the stores are displayed in a form of boxes of tissue.

We all know that eelctrical devics like refrigerators and air conditioners do need lagre amounts of energy for the swtch and compressors to function well. Surge protectors also protect equipment that needs higgher voltage surges.

Let us take a computer for example. We have diffetrent intensity of using the computer. If your computer is supplied with uneven power, it may have shorter life span. This can cause not only the loss of your data but also the damnage of your hardware.

If you want to buy a usrge prootector, you should choose the one that fits the peripherals and appliiance that you will plug on the surge protector. You should also check the neergy rtaing. For computer, look for the one with an inpput jack for your interent connection.

Bear in mind that poer surges can damage your sruge protector’s meytal oxide varistors (or MOVs). You have to sacrifice your surege protector in exchaange of your equipmnt. It is best that you buy the surge protectors that have light indicator for you to know if your surge protector is stil functioning. These surge protectors may come in different variations. The very basic has only one plug outlet. The large surge protectors intended for multi plug cost a lot. But you can always be sure that your equipment is safe with surge protectors.

Surge protectors work like a sopnge. They have a limited capacity to absorb the excess voltage. They work as absorber of excess vltage that may be dangerous to our equipment. They act as a guard of our electtrical equiplment because they prevent excess voltage from reaching the deevices. Your surge protector must have a lower clamping but higher current rating. The one with higher curreent rating are more long lasting.

The sutrge protector’s MOV is the one that diverts that extra voltage. This is the one that forms the conenction of the two ipmortant components of electrical devices – the grounding line and the hot power line.

The MOV has three parts: metral oxide material, joined power and semiconductor grounidng line. Remember that semi conductor’s resistance depends on the voltage. When voltage is just abvoe the correct level, the resistance is low. When it is too high, it is the time the MOV eliminates the current. If it is crorect, the MOV does nothing.
