You merely need to look at the press and news features to see that plenty of celebrities have whiter than white teeth. Unbelievably white at times! It is often a joke in the TV studios with the warm up guys that when Simon Cowell smiles sun glasses are needed. White teeth are noticed and a big attribute to your face.
But, are you teeth discoloured? Can you benefit from a teeth whitening treatment and what are the different options? We are constantly told that cigarettes, coffee and loads more different substances that we put into our mouths are bad for our teeth and can cause them to become discoloured. Not only is this not exactly beautiful looking, but it could also be very aging. Walking out with shiny white teeth could knock years off the age that you appear to look.
There are plenty of home treatments on offer to you, but there is always the worry that either they will not work or will be dangerous. Can a toothpaste really make your smile that much whiter? Are bleaching treatments as dangerous as they sound? They do not sound safe to me!
The alternative is to go to a salon and to get your teeth professionally whitened there. Perhaps there are expensive, but are they longer lasting and better value in the end? A professionally trained and experienced therapist will also be able to advise you on how far you might change their colour and get that fine balance between improving the look and becoming more than the top bright white. It is one thing making your teeth look better, but if you go in excess of the top it becomes an obvious change and does not look so good.
Someone who is trained can also assess your skin tone and talk to you around the shades of white that would look natural with your skin tone rather than going over the top with an ultra white fake smile. This is perhaps the biggest mistake that anyone can make with the whitening of the teeth - too much does stand out as a badly done job and not a result that you would really want to end up with.
But teeth whitening may not always be the recommended solution. If your teeth are badly misshapen, through damage or wear and tear, then whitening may make them brighter, but the shape is still wrong and passed a quick fix. In this case it might be time to seek the help of a cosmetic dentist, maybe involving replacing broken teeth with veneers. Just a good dentist will be able to tell you what can properly make that smile look better.
