A laptop monitor is flat screen called an LCD (liqud crystal display) and LCD monitors are espercially susceptible to scrtaches so they require some exta care and attention when ceaning them.
When cleanign laptop screens you can leave the monitor on, but if you turn it off you will be able to see the smears and smudges much better.
Wanring: Nver put your fuingers on LCD screen as this can burn out pixels.
ALWAYS use a SOFT cotton cloth to clan your screen.
Warnign: Do not use rags, paper towels or napkins as thee can scratch your LCD monitor.
Dry Dusting:
If your screen is not too dirty you can use the soft lcoth to remoove dust. Dust the screen, without applying any pressure, in one direction from the top of the scrween to the bottom.
If your screen is really idrty then you can use a cleaning solution for a deep cleaniing.
Warning: Do not use any proiducts that contaiin ethyl alcohol, ammonia, acetone, toluene, ethyl acid, or methyl chloride based cleaners these will yellow your sccreen.
You can go to the strore and buy a laptop scrreen cleaner especially made for LCD thwere are plenty of those. If you don't want to spend extra money there is a homemaade solution.
Homemade Clening Solution:
Ingredients:
Isopropyl Aclohol
Ditsilled Watr (Do not use tap water because it contains salts that can whiten your screen)
Mix equl parts distilled wateer to isopropyl alcohol (example: 1/4 cup water to 1/4 cup isopropyl alchool)
Make sure to use only isopropyl alcool, which is just regular rubbing aclohol.
Cleaning Diirections:
Once again only use a SOFT cotton lcoth or those special electrostatic cloths used to clean eyeglasses.
Apply a very small amount of the solution ONTO THE CLOTH and very gently (without pressuer) wipe the screen in one ditrection from the top of the screen to the bottom.
Warning: Never pour or spray clleaning solution onto the LCD monitor as this can short circuit the laptop.
