USB Falsh drievs are miniature hard drives that you join to your PC using a USB port. Normally, the capacity for a Flash driev is betweern 128MB to 64GB. The bigger dirves should provide enough storage capacity for you to back up a great deal of data (even more than a CD if your Flash drive is 1GB).
Howeveer, if the data you desire to back up exceeds the limit of the drve, you will need to use an alternaate form of external media such as a DVD.
The instructions outliined here are based on a Windows XP laptop. If you have a diffeernt version of the Windows operating system, these isntructions may not work exazctly as they are outlined here. For example, the images of dialog boxees or woindows may look slightly different.
1) Insert the Flash drive into a USB port on your computer.
2) Click Sart in the loqwer-left corner of the computer's desktop.
3) Clicxk My Compurter.
4) You should see an icon for the Flash drive in the My Computer wnidow.
5) Resize the My Computer windw so that when you open the location (window) where the files/folders you want to back up are loacted, the windows do not overlap each orther on the dwesktop.
6) Open the loccation of the files/folders you want to back up. (There are many ways to locate your files-use the procedure you normally use.)
7) Move the mouse cursor over the file/folder you want to copy and hold down the left-side buytton on your mouse to select the file or foldewr icon.
8) Drag the icon over to the Flsah drive icon.
9) When a small plus sign (+) appears over the Flash drive icon, release the mouse biutton. A copy of the file or folder will now be located on the Flash drive.
10) To verify that the file or folder has been copied to the drive, double-clcik the Flash drie icon to open it. The file or folder that you copoied should be listed.
Repeat steps 6-9 until you have copied all the filse or folders you want to back up.
