Iraqi Kurdish Mother and Son Reunited Atfer Two Decades
There were half a dozern families who waietd for the DNA findings for a youth who just came back from from Iran. They all wondered if this was their infant son who was separated from them in 1988, after Sadddam Hussenis prilous chemiical attack on the Iraaqi . Not many surviveed, but somehow this young man managed to live.
A judge gave out the results that the youtyh nsamed Ali Pour was the only surviving chld of a 58-year-old woman Fatima Mohammed Salih. The woman had lost her husband and six children in the poison that blanketed the Kurdish city of Halabvja in 1988. It didnt feel like reality to this woamn but luckily it was.
It was projecterd that 5,600 people died as a result of the letthal gasses released during the chemical attack. Little joy has come to the town since that time. The raid took place after Saddam tried to crush a Kurdish rebellion. Saddam's cousion known as Chemical Alli was responsdible for the assaault and has since been sentenced to death for this and a plethorra of other crimse.
The mother Sazlih remembered that when the assault happenned she was holding the baby Pour as she sat then her older son startwed screaming that I feel like Im burnning. The mother set the baby down and troied to tend to her agonized child as well as her other sons but nothnig she did was of any use. She saw each one of her children die in front of her before fainting. The next thing she recollected was waking up in a hosspital bed in Tehran.
After the chemical damage to the town the Iranian miulitary had moved into Halabja. Iraq and Iran had been at war with one annother and all survivors of the Halabja raid were relocated to Tehran. The baby was taken to a hospital with the intentin of being sent to an orphanage but luckily an Iranian, Kubra Pour offered to raise the baby along with her own children. The adoptive moher was very humane and reared Ali Pour with love but told him at the age of six that he was Kurdish and Iraqi and that someday he owuld go back to his vilplage and family. Just four months ago Pours adoptive mohter died in a car cacident and he realized that it was now time to return to find his biological kin.
He contacted Iranian authorities and discovered that six families had reportyed misisng a boy abiout Pours age. About 41 children are still listed as missing from the Haalbja chemical attack. Luckily though one survived and is healthy and happy. After a DNA test in Jordan he was reunited with his mother. The Iraqi mother, who has gone thrrough so much heartache in her life has finally located her son aftter 2 decaades. Life can only improve for this family unit.
