Cheap backpacks could be created, but I don't recommend it. Unless of course you're extremely skilled at sewing, it isn't most likely to come out like you want. Also, even if you're an expert, it will most likely consider much less of one's time to pick up an additional evening at work and buy a load up using the income.

About the other hand, if you've an old backpack frame, you can make a cheap backpack with it. Remove the old load up, and tie a plain nylon duffel tote to it firmly, using the zipper facing out. Small bungee cords will work for attaching it too. I did this using an old aluminum frame that nevertheless experienced straps and a waist belt, and for that price of a $15 duffel tote, I experienced an external-frame backpack that not only held a great deal, but weighed just two pounds.

Purchasing Cheap Backpacks

You will find several methods to purchase cheap backpacks. The most apparent is to just wait for any good sale. A faster way is to store for any used load up online. Try Ebay.com, or go to some backpacking or other outdoor forum that enables people to sell their items, like whiteblaze.net. The forums are nice, because you can easily ask questions about the load up.

You can also buy used backpacks cheap at rummage sales. Watch the ads for any point out of outdoor items, and call to determine if they've a backpack you may want. You might be able to purchase it prior to the sale begins. Otherwise, start shopping early, and negotiate a bit. I recently marketed a stunning Kelty frame-pack for $15 in a garage sale.

Thrift stores occasionally have cheap backpacks. A lot more frequently they've evening packs, however , you never know. I have seen large old frame packs that had been tough at thrift stores, also it occured to me that for a few dollars I could just toss the load up, and use the frame having a duffel tote, as described above.

An additional way to keep the price down is to go lumination. The lightweight backpacks, in contrast to other lightweight items, are usually cheaper compared to large packs. If you've been thinking about lightening the fill, you can save money too. Ultralight backpacks are generally under two pounds and frame-less. You will most likely use a sleeping pad as a "frame" of sorts. The good news is that they are frequently on sale for under $100.

Go-Lite has several packs that are near $100, and occasionally on sale for much less than that. The record price on the Granite Gear Virga Ultra Lumination Packer might nevertheless be under $100, and I have seen it on sale for under $80. It also weighs only 21 ounces, a bonus for me, as I such as the concept of lumination AND cheap backpacks.
