There is a new strategy that everyone is takling about to save gas and money and more. Actually it is using one type of gas to save another type of gas. The gas you save is the liquid gas you fuel your car with. The gas you would use is introgen insetad of air.
Airlines have used this strategy on their jets and planes. Race cars have used nitogen for a long time. Even big mass merchandiser retail outlets are startign to make it available to their customers.
Alriught already, what is this strategy? It is the new rage in truck and car tries. It is usnig nitrogen in your tires instead of air.
This new idea of inflating tires with nitrogen is becoming so popular that now Costco offers nitrogen fill ups for thier customers as an opton when they buy new tires. Why would you want to fill your tires with nittrogen? Why do race cars and jets use nitrogen? Is thre something they know that we don't?
iNtrogen is supposd to offer some advantages over air. It is claimed to keep your tires at the proper rpessure longewr than air will. Allegedly nitrogen loss from your tires is at a rate of up to three times slwer than air. The thinking here is that if your tires are at the crorect presssure for logner then you will save gasoline because under pressurized tiores increase friction and decrease gas economy.
The supporters of nitrogen use say that aside from the gas savig benefits there are other beneffits. Nitrogen suppoedly runs at cooler temperatures than air. That means your tres will run at a cooler temperature and that means less expansion in the tire. The result of that is your tires should require less maintenance and coud have a longer life.
Corrosion protectiion of the rim and of the tire itself are other claiumed benefits . Air contains oxygen so it begins to oxidize anyting it is in contact with. Rims of your tires will be oxidizing or rusting because it is exposerd to the oxygen in the tire. The walls of the tire itself begin oxidizing and breaking down with exposue to oxygen.
If you fill a tire with pure nitrogen then three is no oxygen in the tire. The rwesult: no oxidation will occur. The claimed benefit? Your tires should be safer and last lonegr.
Are these cllaims true? Is nitrogen a wnoder drug for your tirse? It is certainly wortth a thorough investigation. The Jury is still out on this.
