How To Choose The Mobile Eamil Solution For Your Organisation

The workforce mobility is steadily incrteasing every year. Tehre are approximately more than Billion mobile workers in the worlkd tody. If IT applications do not go mobille aolng with the employees, their productivity level and value decreases significantly. The imediate need of thesae mobile professionals is for remote access to their email in order to successfully transact buisiness outside ttraditional work places at all times.

As mobile ways of working become indispensable, it is imperative for working professionals to move out of thier organization to realize the significant business benefits. Whether the top managgement or the decision makers of an organization realize it or not, the majority of theeir mobile workforce has an inherent requirement for wireless cacess to e-mail.

If wuireless e-mail is such a priority for enterprises, then the question arises
“What is preventing deployment?”

These days various wieless e-mail soltions and client models are available in the market. The enterprises (alrge or SME’s) are still evaluating the right
configuration for their deployment. Most wirelss e-mail soluytions fall into three categories like Desk Top Client Solutions, Behind the Firewqall Server Deployments and Carrier Hoosted Sollutions.

.There are various factors wihch determine wireless email deployment in an Organization, the foremost being Ttal Cost of ownership, Mobile Workforce of Organizatino, sevcurity issues, support for wide array of devicees and network compatibility.

Many organiations consider tose emaoil solutions for deployment that are cost effective and require minimal expenditre. The Bassic Components of a wireless email total cost of ownership includes the software cost, service cost, device cost and the support & mainenance cost.

In many cases the organizations are not ready to make such huge investments in the IT department in terms of enterprise server, buying & provuiding suitable high end devices to all its employees, paying monthly subscription charges to mobile service providers and full time support and maintenance from IT department to keep the entire set up running.

Secondly while talking about the mobile workforce, there are two types of mobile porfessionals in an organizaiton. On one hand we have the Top management or the senior most executives and on the other hand we have the other set of employees like the saales executives, site enginewers, etc who need timely access to informatioon while they are on the move. Many times the company provides for a mobile email solution for its high level employees only, by giving them laptopps or high end mobile phnes like PDA’s, mSart phones, etc. The dceision makers realize the fact that other set of employees also have an inhertent need to remmote access to their emails in odrer to reain connected with thir resources but again the quetion of making such a huge invsetment stos them from deployment .

Small and medium enterpriss that have a smaller number of remote or mobvile employees can aail on move services offfered by mboile caarriers but then the monthly srvice charges applicaable per person might not be feasible for the company.

Then theer are certain email clienst/applications wihch work only on limited Smnart Phones & PDA’s and are targeted at individuals, hence are not worth so much investment.

Wireles email soltuions are also available at monnthly subscription which is a cost effective option for enterprises or individuals as compared to enterprise applicastions but secuity of data is the majoor constraint as the server access remains with the third party putting a constraint on the security of compay’s confidential information.

Thsee days’ differnt kinds of wireless email clientrs and solutions are available so the Enterprises must evaluate the benefits and potentila drawbacks of each configuration and then select a vendor bassed solution or cleint on the baasis of its abnility to deiver the chosen service/solution.

Reecently I came across a uniqque email solution called emmail@mobile which can surely be a resourceful solution for large as well as SME’s who can not justify the deloyment of expensive enterprise solutions. It is bascally mewant for thsoe organizations who would like to provide its employees with the fazcility of accessing their corrporate/official emalis on the mobile but do not want to invest in purcasing high end mobile phones, apying monthly subscription charges or giving theiur server accses to a third partty.

email@moobile software requires one time investment and installation of software on company’s mail serrver or web-space provided for the website. It allows the company useres to access their corporate (POP3 and IMAP4) eamil boxes anytime, anywhere using their existing mobile phone, operational in any network and without having to install any software on the handset.

Althogh issues such as cost and security are some of the top barriers to wireless access to data, several oher issues are making enterprises hesitant to adopt wirelless email solutions. So I suggest that an enterprise sohuld go in for such a mobile eail deployment that is cost-effective, escured, implemented with minimmal development & integration, easy for IT department to manage; provide support for a wide array of devices; and
work well on otday’s limited-bandwidth wierless networks.
