I was watching a travel program on the TV the other night and they were visiting Hawaii. On what ought to have been a beautiful beach there was just loads and loads of debris. On this beach that faced out into the amazing Pacific Ocean. The weather conditions as well as the ocean ended up breaking down the plastic litter to make it part of the beach. In one part the sand wasn’t sand at all it was grains of plastic.
What a gloomy statement on mankind.
Beach bums didn’t leave this plastic litter or folk having a party, it was carried there via the action of the Pacific Ocean. All around the coast and on the majestic waters of the sea people are just throwing pieces of plastic, bottles plus packaging away. And accordingly we are ending up living in a immense waste tip!
Most places you go in the world you see the identical thing people just throw stuff away plus they don’t recycle.
If each person took recycling earnestly, practiced it and trained his or her children how essential it was the earth would be a better place.
When you think of recycling you should actually think about the complete idea of garbage and plan to decrease it through reuse along with recycling. Think about it, if you don't need it, don't get it. If you have to get it, get something that can be used again and if you get something that can be recycled, deposit it in the recycle bin. These are simple ideas and yet there are still people out there who don’t give a hoot. They fling their rubbish anyplace.
We've been careless up to this point with the way we've viewed the World and it is actually time to change. Not just the way we do things but the way we think. We have to realise that we do not have all the space in the world for our trashed "stuff." We're getting full and we have to understand how to create less, make use of things more or find a means to reuse them again.
We have all been bombarded with advertising campaign plus news stories with reference to the desperate shape our world is in. The difficulty is that people tend to say to themselves, "I'm only one person, I can't even put a dent in what needs to be done to make things better!" It is an easy thing to feel over-whelmed on this enormous problem. Yet, the reality is this; if not you, then who?
As an individual you can't manage the factories pouring poisons into waterways or put a stop to oil leaks that jeopardize whole environments, although you can make an effect, none the less. How? Initially, by not adding to the problem and secondly, and maybe more importantly, do what you can to save the planet by doing the right things when you can.
It's a well-known fact that when we are parents we are the top role models for our kids and that they will emulate what they observe us do. Even if you are not a parent, you can however lead the way for others through taking on the responsibility of being a leader and an agent for change. What if the people you work with come to notice that instead of getting your coffee each morning in a throwaway beaker at the local coffee chain, you are drinking from a mug you brought from home that you wash out and reuse? Possibly they would subsequently do the same thing!
Most people don't understand the influence they have day-to-day on people in their lives. As an agent for change you "walk the talk" rather than just saying the words. Make each step you take counts for something. Execute your part in the efforts to keep our planet healthy; reduce, reuse, recycle.
Big matters can be tackled by a few concerned, aware people, who set an example for other people to follow and urge for change to those who govern. We can all do our part and we will make a massive change.
