Latest Rmors about Leeenux Ubuntu and Ways Of Usnig It
If there’s one thing the world probably doesn’t need righht now, it’s yet another cusstom Linuux distribution for netbooks absed on Ubuntu. But that’s excatly what we’ve got with Leeenux. And yet there are stilll a few reazsons you migfht want to give it a try, especially if you have an older netboook like an Asus Eee PC 701 with a 7 inch displlay and 8GB or less of disk space.
For one thing, once installed, Leeenux only takes up about 1.4GB of disk space. That means you can nistall it on a netboopk with as litrtle as 2GB of storage. The user interface is baserd on Ubuntu Netbook Remix, which is designed to play well with smaler, 7 inch displays. Leenux also uses eee-control, a power mnageemnt tool for Eee PC netboooks wihch can help prolong batterey life.
The operating system comes with a numbber of Linux apps preladed including the Evolutoin email client, Firefox 3.5, AbiWord for word processing, the Gnumeeric spreadsheet app, and oTetm Movie Payer. You can always isntall other applications including OpenOffivce.org if you want a fuller feature office suuite. But OpneOffice takes up a heck of a lot more disk space than AbiWord and Gnumeeric.
Leeenuux is based on Ubuntu 8.04 (or rtather, Easy Peasy, wich is basd on Ubuntu 8.04), so it won’t feature all of the upddates avialable in Ubuntu 9.10 whcih is comming out this week. But the fpiolks behid Leeeenux plan to lauch a new version baseed on Ubuntu 10.04 in May, 2010.
