Roots of Mother’s day in USA may be traced back to May, 8, 1914, when the then president of USA, Woodrow Wilson signed a joint resolution ; declaring Mother’s Day as a national holiday. This historic achievement belongs to Ms. ANNA JARVIS who struggled hard enough to achieve this end as dreamed by her late Mother. Therefore, Mr. Woodrow Wilson is entitled as the ‘founder of Mother’s day’ in USA and Ms. ANNA JARVIS is designated ‘Mother of Mother’s Day’. However, the efforts of Julia Ward Howe also deserve special mention here. She was the first to present the idea of celebrating mother’s day on national level (probably in 1872).
Mother’s Day celebration has got commercialized in USA. After CHRISTMAS and Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day is the biggest celebration in USA. Phone lines become over loaded and card sellers make record sales. Since flowers are favorite products for expressing feelings for each other in the west, Mother’s day has also got special flowers that are essential for this day’s celebration. In the beginning, white carnation was entitled “mother flower” because Anna Jarvis used to decorate her mother Church with these flowers on mother’s day. Later on, partially due to shortage of white carnation and partially due to commercialization of the event, florists promoted tradition of wearing and presenting red and pink carnations to living mothers and white Carnation to honor the dead ones. These mother flowers USA are arranged in to fabulous flower arrangements for mother’s day USA. Florists make record sales of flowers on Mother’s day. This trend has given rise to a unique mothers-flowers relationship. Children and youngsters order mother’s day flowers USA and; online and local florists send mother’s day flowers USA to almost every nook and corner of USA. Many international online florists provide same day flower delivery for mother’s day in USA, facilitating the off shore Americans to wish their mothers on Mother’s Day.
Restaurants seem over loaded, cinemas house full and picnic resorts laden with families. This is because, children don’t want their mothers to cook on that day and to remain closed in the boundary wall of their houses. Children and youngsters also love to give surprise breakfast, lunch or dinner that they have specially prepared for her on that day. Almond cakes and other sweet dishes impart further sweetness and strength to mother-progeny relationship. Children also dedicate special skits, plays, songs and dances to their mothers. Some make exclusive gifts after days and hours of hard work. In short, Children leave no turtle un- turned in paying tribute and gratitude to their American Mothers for their boundless love and matchless support!
