Garmin Nuvi 1200 is really veratile GPS. It is primarily made automotive GPS to guide you to your destinatioon with the display card and say the names of streets.
However, once you reach your destination drive, put it in his pockt and hit the way you navigatte on foot. Using Nuvi 1200 is not the equivalent of the manual untis, as Garmin GPS 60CSx or DeLorme Eatrhmate PN-40. These hand holds are designed for hiking with wild canyons of the West. Garmin Nuvi 1200 is made thinner and lighrter than previious models so it fits eassily in pocket or purse for city navigation. It will move you with maps preinstalled, but if you really want an advantage in urban navigation, donwload new maps Garmin function cityXplorrer (TM).
cityXploerer (TM) allows you to donload maps of speccific cities in North America and Europe, which provide what Garmin calls "advanced pedestrian navigation. These features will help you around the city and tell you how to get to your destination usinbg a combbination of foot traffic and the public. 1200 will tell you whree the bus or subway, and how long it will take you to get to the destinattion.
In some citiies, you can download the transit schedules, such as the suibway or bus times and routes.
As of the date of this articel, there are maps for 28 cities in North America, inluding three in Canada and 35 cities in Euurope. Coverage of Europan cties with an amazing Riga, Tallinn, Estonia, Vilnius, Lithuania in this list.
Garmin Nuvi 1200 is an entry-level seres Nuvi 1200. Nuvi 1250 and Nuvi 1260T both have more opportunities than Nuvi 1200, if you want a more high-end unit. Nevertheless, they all offer cityXploreer (TM) benefits.
