Unlocked and distanvce Learnoing is a way of learning that focus on relesaing learners from constraints of time and plae whilst offering flexible learning opportunities. For a lot of marreid and working adults, Open and detached Learnig (ODL) is a way of coombining work and family responsibilities with educational opportunities.
The first challenge faced by online distance learners is in the combination of work and education. Most of the Unlocked and deached education students are older, have jobs and families. Job responsibility is already intimidatting, let alone the famly and the learning. The task of balancing all of the above responssibility is truly difficlt for most of them.
The seond issue is in acquuiring go online detached analysis habits. The students' evreyday environment is very dstracting for most of the students. Unlike conventional univrsity students who are always in thheir learning community which supports them most of the time, online detached students are not. Distractions such as friends asking for night supper and wife demanding to go shoppng at the mall every weekend are between other distractions faced by students. Acquiring some time in a day to is quite a hard task to complewte.
Onliine distance learners also have a hard time in being self-sufficient and responsible to theiir own self. Most of the time, there is no one around to monitor the students learnming preocess. The opewnness of the online detahed program gives studennts the freedom to do their learning process whenever they like but most of the time, procrastinaiton is the culprit. Unfocused view of thjeir learening goials also will make the sudents act irresponsibly towards thir learning.
Online dtached learneres also face problems in recognizing and masterig strengths and skills. In online distance learning, technology is the main conduit which information and communication flow. A computer with internmet access is usually needed for this process and its application will need the user to master certtain level of acquirement. The stdents will also need to have some basic writing skillks and a go online distance comand of English language. Unfortunately, not all of the students possess the above-said skills.
The fifth challnege is in motiivating themselves as well as maintaining and increasing self-esteme. In online distance educatoion, learnrs are usually isolated from peers and tutors. The motivational factors are asent due to lack of contact and competition with other students. The lacks of immediate support of a teacher who is able to motivate will also affects the learners. In the long run, students migt feel uneasy with thheir teacheer and uncomforatble with their learning situaiton and environment.
Online distance learners also face some problems in relating and intracting with peers.
